What’s funny about this is the extremely low vaccination rate in the Bahamas. Maybe they should worry about here own peeps.

I am sure they ARE worried about their peeps. I am sure they would like the wealthy countries not to buy up and hoard all the vaccine. Until that happens though, they can try make sure the (relatively) rich Americans who visit don’t bring more death and disease with them.

What a mess - I wonder if the Bahamas were giving any advance notice to cruise lines that this might be coming? Seems like they might not have cancelled the Fantasy cruises if vaccinations were going to be required (I am on the 9/25 Fantasy and now also the 9/20 Dream). Now they need to scramble to decide if they are going to require vaccinations or just cancel all the cruises. (My husband's money is on cancel, but he is very much being and Eeyore about DCL right now.)
My neighbors got notice in July that their January 2022 cruise on another line was canceled because the line felt covid requirements of various ports would make it impossible to them to proceed with the cruise. So I think ALL the cruise lines have known this was possible.

We booked a verandah room on the Dream for their Sept 24, 2021 sailing 6 days ago to use up our FCC. The verandah staterooms were cheaper then oceanview and inside staterooms. Just checked and now those staterooms have dropped at least $300 in price to be a few dollars less then the verandah. I was also able to book a Palo brunch which was unavailable before. Looks maybe people are canceling and Disney is dropping their prices.

A "closed loop" cruise is a cruise that departs and returns to the same port for debarkation and has stops in foreign ports. A "cruise to nowhere" is a cruise that departs and returns to the same port for debarkation with no stops in any other port. Ships have been unable to do a cruise to nowhere out of a US port for a number of years now.

It has to do with crew visas. Visas for crew on a "regular" cruise that stops in foreign ports are cheaper and easier to obtain than a visa for crew on a ship with no foreign ports. It's a CBP issue. A cruise to nowhere, since it never stops in a foreign port, it's deemed "employment within the US" and requires visas that are more costly (for cruise lines) and more involved paperwork for them to be issued. Most cruise lines opted to stop doing cruises to nowhere because of this.

This is very interesting information. Thanks. When the ship comes into port and takes on fuel and supplies and then goes back out and circles for a couple of weeks then back in for fuel and supplies like they did when they were not taking on passengers does this not count as a closed loop as it is not revenue generating?

Often they were anchored out just a few miles out. If you never leave US boundary waters would that be considered departing?

The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines require sub-zero refrigeration that these countries cannot provide - so most of what the US has purchased could not be used in these tropical and sub-tropical countries. (I fully support using taxpayer money to fund the purchase of vaccines that do not require such low temperatures and sending them to less prosperous nations.)

I was literally just sitting here thinking this!!! I hope one of them has kept a journal or something! Maybe there will be a documentary on Disney Plus one day!!
I doubt Disney + would air a truly honest tell-all of conversations surrounding Covid based decisions! I’ll bet brand loyalty might drop off just a bit hearing some things that were discussed to cut costs!🧐🤑

And just like that, Royal's website updates as well

The Bahamas Proof of Vaccination

Beginning September 3, 2021, cruise ships will only be permitted to enter the waters of The Bahamas if all guests and crew onboard age 12 and up are fully vaccinated. This is an order of The Bahamas Government scheduled to remain in effect until November 1, 2021, at which point the policy may be updated. We remain in contact with local governments in the ports we visit and will update the policy accordingly.

For cruises departing Florida, on ships that are scheduled to enter the waters of The Bahamas on or after September 3, guests who choose not to provide proof of vaccination to meet the requirements of The Bahamas will not be permitted to board the ship. Impacted guests should contact us at 1 (800) 256-6649. Guests under the age of 12 will not be asked to show proof of vaccination, but will be subject to our COVID-19 testing policy.

i love their phrasing as it’s not THEIR requirements it’s the Ports requirements so it seems to skirt Florida’s rules..
