Well, we bumped our trip from 4 days in October to a week in July because the family trip to Myrtle Beach this summer (insisted upon by my sister in law) fell apart and that left us without a summer vacation.

My husband informed me yesterday that his brother & family, who were also affected by their sister's flakiness, has decided to join us at Disney. I'm assuming with their newly acquired trailer.

All well and good, but Disney is hard enough with our seasoned family of four. My brother in law has no clue what Disney is all about and is also brand-spankin-new to RVing.

Oh, and we'll also have our new puppy with us.

I hope this doesn't turn out to be one big disaster.

Plan your vacation, and share the information with them. If they want to make their plans match yours, then that's fine. (unless you are willing to make the plans for all).

From what I have read on here and experienced elsewhere, it's probably a good thing to let the families go separate ways and meet up at specified times (perhaps meals or other "Special Events" such as shows). That way both groups can enjoy their vacation and still enjoy some time together.

That is exactly what I would recommend. The #1 thing your BIL will not understand is the need to plan in advance. Make your own plans, share with them, offer to make 1 ADR a day and link your MDX accounts.

Frankly, I think the puppy will be the hardest part of the vacation. Will s/he be able to stay in the trailer for an extended period of time or will you have to go back and walk him/her frequently?

That's true. We took our 130# Yellow lab with us in 2012. He spent some days in the "Best Friends Day Care" (and they were awesome with him) and he spent some days in the camper while we were at the park. He was (and is), however potty trained, he had free reign of the trailer (albeit only a 27' TT with 1 slide) and he is used to being home alone for 8 hours a day (or more) so it wasn't that big of an issue. A puppy on the other hand needs a lot more attention. So please make sure you consider the puppy in your plans as well.

This is exactly how we travel with family. I don't even share my whole itinerary. I tell them what days we plan in what parks and let them know what special dinners we have planned. We generally account for a few downtimes that we are guaranteed to be together as well.

Well, we are seasoned WDW people and have decided that between the heat, the crowds, the puppy and the in laws, we will skip the parks this time and just enjoy the Fort and resort restaurants (and a bit of gift shop shopping). I plan on frequent walks with the puppy, and perhaps a ride around the Fort in a golf cart. With the puppy properly restrained on someone's lap, and with a secure harness.

But my first thought was how I hate to try to do Disney World with newbies who have no clue and no desire to learn.

I am ok with doing Disney with Newbies who don't have a clue. That's not an issue. It's the "No desire to learn" that would get me. I suppose I'd be ok with that too as long as they didn't give me any grief about what we planned.

I am with you on the spending time with the Puppy. You know the old cliche', don't ya? "The more I meet people, the more I like my dog!" :)

You haven't been to WDW in 2 years and you'll just want to hang around the campground while your BIL's family does the parks? Perhaps you can leave your pup home with family or friends so you can enjoy a parks vacation.

My BIL saw the ticket prices and nearly choked. We told him that we weren't doing the parks, so no worries. He's decided not to do the parks either. Is it sneaky of me to get a two day ticket for my daughter & me on the sly? Lol.

My sister, who is our family's Disney fanatic always said, "Disney's not going anywhere and you'll be back" whenever I worried about not being able to fit something into our schedule.

People see the ticket prices and think they have to do all 4 parks. IMO, the MK is a Must-Do every trip, DHS and Epcot Once-Every-Fifth trip or so, AK - well, did it twice in my life and I don't feel like I am missing anything. :rolleyes2

For a summer trip like this, I would consider doing the Water Parks, both of them, a couple of days apart. Go leisurely/early, grab some loungers in the shade, and nap/drink, swim and have fun all day. If it rains, hang in there because folks leave and it empties out quite a bit. Once the rains stop, there are fewer people.

Napria, what are the chances of the flaky sister in law realizing that everyone else will be at Disney and she decides at the last minute to come down too? If so is there a chance of you live streaming from your site? :surfweb:

Tequila solves a lot of that vacation stress.... :drinking1

Bama Ed

I can't seem to quote just a portion of someone's reply on my ipad :(

BamaEd if my SIL and other BIL join us (all WDW virgins) I'm forming a production company to shoot a reality TV show. I'd make a fortune! Believe me, the original trip to camp on Lake Lanier here in Georgia she organized two years ago was chock full of drama! And that was at a peaceful lake!

I wouldn't miss BB or TL in July for anything. But I'm planning on telling them when we're going and meeting them there. I'm an early riser and in my experience very few people will get up and out as early as I do.

Oh, and the breeder sent me a picture of my three week old puppy! Here he is (I think it'll post as a thumbnail that can be clicked?)

Should we name him Walt? Mickey? We're still looking for a good name for him.

He's totally cute! What kind of dog is he?

Thanks! He's a havanese. I was looking for a medium/small low-shedding, non-yipping, affectionate, intelligent breed that comes in colors (other than all white). Havanese fit the bill and are generally healthy as a breed in addition to all those other qualities I was seeking.

You should see how cute they are in their adult coat!
