Tomorrow I am supposed to do my 10 miler (I'm training for the half) and I seem to have come down with a cold and my body is all achy and I just don't seem to have the motivation to even move...I've only gotten 5 miles in this week - that is how icky I feel.

Last week I did 9 miles, next week 12...my question is should I push myself out the door tomorrow morning to at least get some miles in or should I let myself sleep in so I can get myself healthy and back up and running (pardon the pun) in time for the 12 miler?

I would just feel so guilty if I didn't do my miles this week...especially since the race is so close...

Any thoughts?

You need to remember this...you want to get to the starting line healthy. If you go out tomorrow not feeling well, instead of resting, you risk getting more sick in the process, and not being able to run next week. My opinion is that if you have followed your training plan all along, missing one run this weekend, is not going to hurt you. My advice is to rest up tonight and tomorrow and see how you feel on Sunday, if you are not feeling well then, then just skip the run and get back at it next week.

Good Luck!

I hope you are sleeping in so you get well soon! Take care of yourself. You will complete your half with no difficulty doing what you have already been doing.

Sorry, I'm a bit late. Hope you rested, though. That is MUCH more important at this point. :wizard:

I took the weekend off...felt really guilty cause my husband did his 10-miler all by his lonesome...

In my head, I know I have to get my miles in this week so I can be ready for 10-12 this weekend and I really want to but my body and my sinuses are telling me to chill out!!! Also from a "wise" standpoint - I'm also on some cold meds and am a bit concerned about raising my core temp too much...

I know I will be ready and able to finish the race but this cold is really playing with my head - literally and physically....

I've just got to get myself better...and quick!!!

Thanks for the encouragement!!!

Crisis averted...got in a strong 11 miler today and I feel so much better...

In hindsight, I think that taking the time off to rest and recover was a good idea and really didn't side-line me at all.

Now I just have to let these blisters heal up (plenty of time) and TAPER!!!

Definitely the best part of training for a race!

Thanks everyone!
:yay:

Glad to hear that you are feeling better! Now you know the answer for the next person who will ask. Glad you had a good set of miles too!
