Jumped on Google news this morning to see what kind of reviews Tron is getting and it was hard to find good ones. Almost every review is saying the movie is all visual eye candy and no storyline. This could turn into a disaster considering how hard Disney has been selling this movie. Think about all the Tron events and specials they did. Heck, there is even a Tron segment in the new World of Color show at DCA.

I'm keeping an open mind when I go see it this weekend, but my expectations are pretty low now.

The critics at rottentomatoes are pretty split (it got a 49% positive rating). Most who like it are citing the special effects.

Sayhello

It may not be a blockbuster, but I don't think it will be a disaster either.

It seems to me that there are many of today's movie goers who care little about any story or plot--just give them lots of special effects and it's a great movie.

Saw it last night in IMAX 3D at Kennedy Space Center. While I thought it wasn't that bad, I am also a child of the 80s. I remember seeing the original in the theatres. I think Disney should of rereleased the original movie so a newer generation could see it. Some parts they assumed you knew what it was or who the characters were. Overall I would say to see it if you were a fan of the original Tron movie.

I thought it was great....Dont know if it will be the Hit Disney was hoping for but i really enjoyed it and hope they make a sequel..as there seems to be a lot of room to build upon

I just got back from seing it. I thought the movie was awesome. To me the story line made sense. Just stupid critics looiking for 2 minutes of fame on tv to slam a Disney movie. PLus they left it open for a part 3.

So is it a continuation from the first movie - as in if you did not see the original Tron you won't understand the movie?

I didn't care for the first movie so I won't be seeing this one.

Not every movie made needs to be Oscar worthy. A plain old good time with eye candy can be a good thing. There would beva lot of unemployed models if that weren't true...

I saw it last night. Some friends wanted to see it, so I went along for the ride. Ugh, I wish I had saved my time and money. I can't remember the last time I looked at the time so many times in a movie. I didn't like it. Having said that, I could care less about the visual effects. I also have never seen the first one, but that didn't prevent me from understanding the story at all.

As for the people I went with. My husband, who loves the original movie, also didn't like it and thought it was boring and full of weird stuff that didn't make sense. My two friends however, liked it. But they also pointed out a bunch of problems.

Honestly, I think Disney does a better job on animated movies. (I LOVED Tangled.) I tend not to be a fan of the full length stuff. It's a shame because I really wanted to like this movie.

Just my opinion anyway!

Almost every review is saying the movie is all visual eye candy and no storyline.

Have they seen the original? My daughter has watched it 2 or 3 times over the past few months and still says she has no clue what it is about.

I think the new one has a much better storyline. We saw it on Saturday and enjoyed it. Yes, the special effects are the real star of the show, but so what. The way they de-aged Jeff Bridges is incredible.

Hm, I guess I'll rent this one although the effects aren't going to be the same as in a theater. Judging from what I read, Tron was relying soley on the 'wow' factor and not much else?

My husband and I were so excited Friday to finally be going to see Tron. We are both fans of the original but the new movie was awful. I actually fell asleep twice. It was such a disappointment. We see at least 3 to 4 movies a month and this was the worst movie we have seen this year. Soooooo sad :(

I haven't seen it yet but plan on it. I would normally rent this and not spend the money at the theater (the last movie I saw in the theater was May 2009) but it has been reported that the box office of this movie will determine whether or not they do a Roger Rabbit sequel and I do want to see that.

I thought it was pretty awesome i saw it in the imax 3D the screen was bigger but it wasn't the full imax screen but the 3D was awesome. it felt like you where really upside down during that part.

I remember the original and loved it so I was really looking forward to this one. While I thought it was good, had enough of the backstory and flashbacks to bring current audiences up to speed on people and events, and the cgi is incredible I found that it was just a wee bit too long (for me) and I thought it would have more action. I'm glad that I saw it in the theater and didn't leave wishing that I could have those two hours back but it isn't something that I will run out and see over and over again. But then again, I rarely feel that way about any movie. ;)

I never saw the original but I liked Tron Legacy. I also loved the Tron Disney castle but that might upset some of the castle purists. ;)

They should have made it longer.

They should have let CLU and the programs get out and then fight in the real world for another hour that would have been awesome.
