I just read this on MSN. My DD takes the generic form of Adderall. She has a couple weeks supply left but I'm thinking I'd better turn in my prescription today. Last month, when I went to pick up her prescription they had two different kinds of the pill mixed in the bottle and they assured me they were both the same thing and said they ran out of the usual one they give me. I didn't realize there was a shortage though.

So has anyone had any trouble filling thier prescription yet??

Not cool.... As I type this my DH is picking up my son's script and getting it filled. We leave for vacation tomorrow and it would be so uncool if we have trouble getting my son's medication.

Just filled our son's yesterday (Daytrana patch). That should be good until almost the end of school, thank goodness!

You know, I know better than to read the comments people leave at the end of an article. People going on about how "these kids don't need it anyway, they just need disipline" blah..blah...blah... It makes me angry Why I read them anyway, I don't know.

DD doesn't take her's on weekends unless we have something planned that I think she needs to be focused but for school she needs it! She's come so far since she started Adderall back in February! :thumbsup2

It looks like it's only Adderall and Riddalin (sp?) that's in shortage though so that's good news for many.

My hubby went and got his prescriptions refilled today he takes Riddlin and they said they had been out for a while:goodvibes

Glad I didn't read those things. People can be so ignorant.

We've had a problem for the last 2 months getting my DD17's Adderall XR filled.

I did last month and got the last 30 pills that Rite Aid had. That was after my regular pharmacy had to call around to see if they could find who may have some as they were backordered. Thinking I need to go see about changing her med as no one here has the med right now.

It's not just ADHD meds that are experiencing a shortage. Quite dangerously, there is a shortage of some chemo meds and others:

Here's the FDA list of medication shortages --forewarned is forearmed:

Not trying to minimize ADHD med shortages -- both of my kids have ADHD (both are unmedicated though) so I know how troubling this is. ANY medication shortage angers and scares me.

We had the same thing happen with one of DS 11's Asthma meds a few years ago. He needed it to breath. Talk about scary.

At our house we take Concerta, Vyvanse, and Ritalin. I would feel very sorry for my boys teachers if they can't get their meds. And it's not like you can get the scrip (to prepare for this) filled early with all the laws....

I don't understand how drug companies can have shortages??? They know some people need these to live...it's irresponsible IMO.

DS takes Metadate and generic Ritalin.

We have no problems getting the Ritalin, but have to call around to see which pharmacy has Metadate (long lasting Ritalin) in stock. The trouble finding it started about 6 months ago.

My DS takes generic Adderall XR. We couldn't get the generic last week and had to pay for the brand name- at least they had that! Don't know what's going on but apparently it's happening all over the U.S. Hope it doesn't happen when I refill other DS meds next week- he takes generic focalin. It hard enough that I have to give my kids meds I wish things like this wouldn't happen!

There's a generic for Adderall XR??? I didn't think there was, my pharmacy always gives me the actual Adderall XR, but they give me the generic for the regular Adderall. That generic costs me $10 a month, the name brand Adderall XR costs me $60 a month! I need to look into this!

Fortunately I didn't have any trouble filling DD's script. I mentioned the shortage to the pharmacy tech and he acted like he did'nt know what I was talking about. I fill mine at the outpatient pharmacy at the hospital I work at so that may be the difference.

I know what you mean about a shortage of cancer, asthma and other drugs though. That is scary! My mom is on some very strong prescription meds for her back. She has degenerative joint disease which is pretty severe, (she's had numerous surgeries). She recently moved to another state to live with my brother after her husband passed in January and she couldn't find a doctor that would fill her script as she was low when she moved.

She ended up in the hospital for a week with withdrawal symptoms and in serious pain :scared1:

I have had a little trouble with the Ritalin XR. Usually I go to the local CVS but they were out and weren't sure when they were going to get it in again. Luckily the pharmacy at our grocery store is not very busy and they said they always have plenty in stock. They also told me that stores are not stocking a lot of many of the ADHD meds and manufacturers are not making a lot of them in anticipation of a number of the ADHD meds going off patent - meaning they will shortly be available as generics. :thumbsup2

We had so much trouble getting my son's arthritis meds. The dr finally had to up his dose to the pill form. He was on the low dose liquid. Funny thing is by upping his dose he is so much better. So it worked out for us but is was not fun to watch him suffer because he was in pain for 2 months while they messed with he meds.
