How the heck do i get rid of a ugly pink scar? Its about 2 inches long, and 2 cms wide. Its pink, flat and on the bridge of the nose. Its really noticable (as was the wound).
When DS had stiches in his forhead (all three times) the doctors recomended vitamin E oil. Actuallu buy a bottle of Vitamin E capsules. Prick one a day with a pin and smear the oil on the scar. We put it on morning and night.
Also, you want to be extra vigilant to cover the area with sunscreen if you are out in the sun at all. Tanning along the scar will make it much more permanent.
I have a recent new scar on my face and my doctor keeps suggesting I use Mederma. I haven't tried it yet because the scar doesn't bother me, but I keep meaning to pick some up.
I am using the vitamin E cream now and it doesn't seem to be working. I'll try the "oil" which I am assuming means just breaking open a vitamin E Pill??
My doctor doesn't like Mederma for some reason? When I asked about it he said it isn't necessary. Now I have a big scar also on my face(post surgical) Isn't Mederma persciption??
I'll let you know if I have any success with what I am trying.

Mederma is sold over-the-counter. I had MRSA on my face, just in front of my ear, and every time I see my Dr. she encourages me to get some for the scar. She has a very faint scar on her nose that she says she credits Mederma for lessening.
Usually the pink scar will get lighter with time. But that's if you are vigilant about covering it with sunscreen. That is key. BTW, I had surgery on my jaw a couple of years ago and my surgeon said Maderma is a waste of money, he advised me to be really careful about sun exposure. I have fair skin and the scar is now very pale, not very noticable at all.
I had a huge scar on my neck from thyroid surgery. I used Vitamin E oil, which I was able to purchase in a bottle (but you can use the gel caps), and diligent use of sunscreen. It took about awhile but it finally disappeared.
Try Scar Zone. I had a sore from where a sign fell on me at Sears (off the top of a refrigerator) on my nose and you can barely see it now. Vitamin E is another good idea. My mom used it when my brother (3 at the time) burned his hand with hot water. The only time you can see the scar is when he is really tan.
