So we booked our trip in early Feb. for August 16-30. When we booked we got a direct flight with Disney through Airtran. And now it has changed to a layover flight. Is there anything i can do about this?? I have anxiety already about flying and i just know this will make it worse

Call them!!!! They will switch you to a different flight if they have one that you like better. I think that I have read on these boards that they may even give you a full refund if the new flight times don't work for you.

SweetMommy,
They did the same thing to me about two years ago. I called them up and told them it would not work for me and it is not what I agreed to when I purchased the airfare. They gave me a full refund and I was able to book with a another airline. I hope it all works out for you!

Call them, they will refund your money with no fees attached. This happened to us the last time I flew with them (and I use the phrase "last time" loosely). They cancelled the only non-stop carrier, I called and the agent was pleasant and happily refunded my entire amount and I booked on Jetblue, which was the beginning of a wonderful relationship from then on and I've not flown Airtran again. The last time I "attempted" to fly Airtran, both of my flights got changed/cancelled. I did salvage my flight down to another time which worked for us and non-stop, but did cancel my flight home. After they added the baggage fees that was the last stone for me and I never flew with them again. I stay with Jetblue or Southwest now ... no baggage fees and no fee to choose your seat with Jetblue.

Respectfully, all you agreed to when you purchased the ticket was that the airline would get you from point A to point B on the selected date (excepting circumstances beyond their control). Everything else - routing, stops/changes, equipment, times, seats - is simply requests.

Research first. Know what they have, if anything, that WILL satisfy your needs.

And this only is a good idea if there are any options that are less expensive and/or that suit your schedule better. As noted by a PP, research what other options are available from AirTran and other carriers before you cancel and get a refund. It would be bad to cancel and find out later that the only flights available are no better than what you had and/or that any other options cost twice as much as you had paid for AirTran.
