Ugh, what were we thinking?! 9 days Deluxe Dining with pics! MY Number 2! 7/21!

Final Thoughts…Part One!

Just to reiterate, I do NOT watch Jerry Springer, I just happen to find the phrase necessary! :rotfl:

At first I was going to make it one huge post, but thought I should just break it up into two parts…makes for easier reading I think.

So let's get right in to it...

The Cost: We did 2 TS breakfasts, 7 TS lunches, and 7 Sig Restaurants (would have been 8 SR, but remember our little mishap with Yachtsman?? :ssst:) So we had to use 2 of those credits towards dinner later that night back at CSR after we slept off the alcohol  and then the final 2 credits we used back at CSR towards sandwich meals at the Pepper Market for the flight home! That worked out perfectly for us! Unfortunately, I didn’t have the receipts for those meals, so this total is going to be without those two meals so keep that in mind that the total would be a little bit higher if I added those in.

Kona Café (B) – $37.64
Artist Point (D) - $149.10
Flame Tree BBQ (L) – $24.78
Hollywood Brown Derby (D) - $130.20
Tony’s Town Square (L) - $68.51
Narcoossee’s (D) - $193.04
Le Cellier (L) - $87.81
Flying Fish (D) - $144.16
Cape May Café (B) - $40.45
Chefs de France (L) - $60.02
California Grill (D) - $157.08
Teppan Edo (L) - $84.89
Citricos (D) – 146.21
Sci-Fi Dine-in Theater (L) - $68.51
Jiko (D) - $143.72
The Wave (L) – 69.58

Total = $1, 605.70

Also keep in mind, this total is without the tip (we tipped every meal between 15-20%)…and without those two meals that we didn’t include, I would add about $40-50 towards the total.

ALSO, this is NOT including the 32 () snacks that we had to use up, so if we averaged about $2.50 a snack, that would be around $80.00. But even that’s pretty low, considering DH wanted to make sure he got the most out of his money, so if it was close to $4.00, he got it! :rotfl2:

Now the Deluxe Dining plan is $79.99 per person, per night of your stay.

$79.99 X 2 ppl = $159.98 X 8 nights = $1,279.84 – TEACHERS, do you like how I worked out my math?!?! :teacher: I’m not sure if the 79.99 is including tax??? :confused3

OOP → $1,605.70
DxDP → - $1,279.84

$325.86 Total Saved(add about $40-$50 from the other 2 meals and add about $80 for snacks = $445.86)

So is the Deluxe Dining plan a good deal???

1.) Do you love food? If you answered heck-to-the-yes, then this is your BEST option! You’ll be in food heaven if you go this route. The Basic Plan is good, in that it also allows variety between CS and TS, but this goes above and beyond The Basic Dining Plan and permits you to try some of the best food that’s offered at the Walt Disney World Resort! Remember that you get 2 snacks per person per day, which also means MORE food! We found ourselves having lots of snack credits left over at the end of the trip, so we just used those credits towards packaged food that we could take home and give out to family, if we wanted to….I didn’t I ate it…I’m stingy when it comes to WDW snacks!

2.) What is your ultimate goal: Rides or Food? Keep in mind that if you want to make the most out of the DxDP, you should be using your credits towards TS and Signature Restaurants, otherwise it will be a big money waster. So if you’ll be doing TS and/or SR, you’ll more than likely be making ADR’s, which means you’ll probably have 2 or 3 ADR’s per day. This means you’re going to have to find a way to tour the parks efficiently if you want to see/do a lot of the attractions. We couldn’t do some things that we wanted to do, because of time constraints. Which leads me into my next point..

3.) What time of the year are you visiting? We visited the World during the Off-Season, in which the parks closed early everyday. Soooo that means whatever was on our “to do attractions” list, had to be scrunched into a specific time period in order to make our ADR’s on time. For some reason I never took that into consideration when making ADR’s or my touring plans.

I would honestly recommend the Basic Plan during the off season if your main goal is to do and see everything, but still have some great food options.

The Deluxe Plan I would recommend for the regular/peak season when the parks open earlier and close much later. This allows you to do BOTH the attractions/resort hopping/DTD, etc AND eat at some fabulous places!

4.) Are you willing to travel? I say this because it seemed like we were always on that DANG bus! We would leave our resort, get to a park and stay at the park for 2 hours, get back on the bus to make our ADR, be back on the bus to go to a park for a few more hours, then be back on the bus again to make our dinner ADR, etc etc EVERYDAY! Phew, that was exhausting to even write that, let alone think we did that! If your answer is “Yes”, then make sure your ADR’s are somewhat close in proximity to you what you’ll be doing around that time, whether it be at your resort pool swimming, at DTD shopping, etc.

I’m actually VERY glad that we went with the Deluxe Dining Plan. When I was making our plans for that trip, I had actually had the Basic Dining Plan down…my DH looked it over and wanted to upgrade to the Deluxe, since there were a lot of SR’s that he wanted to do. I’m really glad that he changed that part of our trip. I probably would have been to scared to make those plans on my own! :lmao: I do believe that everyone should try this plan once, just to expand your dining horizon…

In the real world, would I have ordered an appetizer? No, I would have opted for dessert. Would DH have ordered a dessert? No, he would have gone for the appetizer. Even though this was a lot of food for one person, we were able to try things on the menu that we maybe would have glanced over, if we only had to get one appetizer. TIDBIT: Our server was telling me that Disney was thinking about modifying the Deluxe Plan so that each person had an option of either doing the Appetizer or the Dessert and not both. If this was the case, it would work out perfectly for DH and I! I also wouldn't feel so obligated to get both the app and dessert even though I wasn't hungry. Have you guys heard of this??

Anyways, YES, there was a lot of food, yes there was a lot of running around, but it was fun and adventurous! We only did one repeat restaurant on this trip, which was Chefs de France, so all the other restaurants were very next and exciting to us! Which is what Disney is all about….Disney gives you the opportunity to be bold and daring, where perhaps, you may not be in the real world! :woohoo:

Will we be doing the Deluxe Dining Plan again?

YES! But only during the peak/regular season...if you went back and looked at our ADR times, you’ll see we had to eat dinner early pretty much everynight. That was because we wanted to be able to go back to the parks after dinner. However, we would have preferred later dinner slots like 7-730 everynight. If we were to do that during this past trip, we would have never made it to the parks because they all closed by 10pm. Had we gone with the Basic Dining, we would have had a more open appointment book. But I’m so thrilled I was able to do the DxDP, because how else was I going to report back to you with some amazing food?!

So that was A LOT of talking and critical thinking….although Part 2 will be even harder for me to do because I’ll be choosing my fav 3 restaurants and for the first time EVER, DH will be making an APPEARANCE and choosing his favorite three!!! :yay: So stick around!

P.s. if there’s something specific you would like to know for my last update, let me know!!! :wizard:

Hi, Lesha!

What a great trip report!

About the travel time on the bus...did you ever take a cab? I can't remember if you ever did that.

We are a fam of 5 and we took a cab a few times. It was totally worth the extra $15-20.

I actually think if I was going to splurge, I'd splurge on cabs at Disney!

Take care!

That does stink..you'd think they'd be a little more flexible...and I was thinking about this the other day too...what happens if me and DH shared a room with my bro and his wife, me and DH want Deluxe, but they want basic (just for an example). Does this mean there's no way to work around that or it HAS to be either Basic or Deluxe?

I know, I love being so close! I was even closer living in Long Beach! 20 mins!...alas, no more of that...I'll just have to settle for 3 hours, which is still VERY doable!

I hear ya about the plane ride! What works for me, whenever we make our way out east once a year to PA, is we never take a direct flight...I don't know why but the layovers really rejuvenate me! Sounds weird cuz it would then take longer to get to our final destination but it really does help! All psychological I suppose!
[/I]

Yep all have to be on the same DP if in the same room :sad1:

Three hours is nothing we drove down 3x and from where we are in Connecticut it is roughly a 12 hour drive :scared1:

You know I think you have a good idea  about not doing a direct flight, when we went to Vegas it was 1 stop and it wasn't so bad either.

This year food and wine in WDW and who knows maybe food and wine in DL 2011 if I decide to brave the flight out again :cool1:"

YAY, you're at Disneyland right now!!! :)

What you said about blurry pics while trying to take care of the kids in a restaurant is too funny! I can picture it now...I order the mushroom filet at Le Cellier, go to take a pic of it and all I get in the picture is the edge of the plate because my sons are pulling me in different directions! :lmao: I will do my best! Between handling the kids and my DH making fun of me for taking pics of food, it should be interesting, that's for sure! The boys are usually very well-behaved in restaurants so I should at least be able to get some in there! As long as I remember after I cut up their food for them!

By the way, I still haven't done my packing list! I can't believe I am procrastinating so much! We leave in 47 days and no packing list? What's wrong with me?! I did take my little guy to get new sneakers and sandals this morning though, and he was very happy to be able to get both of them with Buzz Lightyear on them! He got all excited! Tomorrow we're buying the cases of water for the trip because we're going to BJ's to pick up some things we are out of, and I have coupons for cases of water that expire after tomorrow. Oh yeah, and Prilosec for DH because he always takes that for a few days before vacation and every day on vacation! ;)

So, even though I don't have my official packing list yet, I have already bought things! What I will probably do is just look at my packing list from 2008 and update it. We no longer need to bring the pack 'n' play (even though Disney provided one, we needed it for hotels on the way down), sippie cups, and we don't need the hot pot for boiling water for Folgers coffee singles. We will have a coffee maker in the villa's kitchen at BWV. There are probably lots of other things on my old list we won't need. DS3 was only 14 months old when we went last time so we needed all that baby stuff that we no longer need! He doesn't even use the stroller anymore, but we're bringing it for him just for Disney World and then we will just leave it there when we leave! DS5 will be walking at the parks this time. We don't mind that he will go at a slow pace, no need to rush.

Well, I just finished reading all 45 pages of this report and I must say your quick wit, attention to details (ie:prices) and great pics made reading a pleasure. We just planned a trip and hope to add the dining plan as we have never gone to the world without it. My trip is 172 days out so I must make this decision soon and you definitely helped seal the deal to book dining. We will probably do the regular dining plan as we are traveling with children and although my mouth was watering on those signature dining places my kids would most definitely not get the most for my money. You did open our eyes to so many places we must have just walked by on our previous trips. We will also be celebrating our 18th wedding anniversary (how the heck did that happen, 18 years:eek:) while we are down there so we need to eat at a nice place that night at the very least. My two dd's 14 and 8 are adventurous eaters and will try just about anything. Their favorite veggie right now is artichoke and asparigus (sp) go figure. My son 12....not so much...more of a carbo/sugar loader when I allow it. Well, enough about me and thanks for the great report, it has totally got me stoked to make my ressies and you are both too cute for words.

Hi unsinkable! :) Nope we never took a cab....we looked at it like this....Cab money vs alcoholic beverages.....Cab money vs souvies....Cab money vs alcoholic beverages.....yup cab money lost :rotfl2:

No, we did talk about it when we were waiting a few times, but then we had NO IDEA how much cabs were in Orlando, plus we didn't carry cash...

Next time we have tons of adr's though, we'll be renting a car and if we can't do that, we'll definitely budget for cabs! :thumbsup2

Yup, that is VERY :scared1: Lol! But the benefit of you driving, is you get to take whatever the heck you want with you in your vehicle!! It's always such a problem for me when packing for flights, because I have so many decisions to make....these shoes vs those shoes, because clearly both of those pairs won't fit in the ONE luggage i'm allowed! :lmao: In that sense, you got it made! :thumbsup2

You know I think you have a good idea  about not doing a direct flight, when we went to Vegas it was 1 stop and it wasn't so bad either.

You folks should DEFINITELY make it out here in 2011!!! Especially with World of Color premiering in just a few weeks!! It should be smooth sailing when 2011 comes around...I hope...:worship:

YAY, you're at Disneyland right now!!! :)

LOL!!! That's exactly what I envisioned!! :rotfl: That would be hilarious if that's all the shots you were able to get of your food! At least we would know that you tried! :thumbsup2

By the way, I still haven't done my packing list! I can't believe I am procrastinating so much! We leave in 47 days and no packing list? What's wrong with me?! I know!! Let's see that packing list already!! Oh my! Your hubby takes Prilosec everyday while on vacation?? Is it because of the stress of things, or the food?? That's heartburn medicine right?

Thanks so much for the compliments! :worship:

Wow 18 years!! Congratulations!!! :cool1: That's quite a milestone!!! :woohoo: Yup, DH and I will be 4 years this July...4 years sounds so puny compared to your 18! :lmao: We'll get there though!

There are lots of nice Table Service restaurants to choose from if you want to have a nice dinner to celebrate your anniversary!!! So no worries there! I think it's awesome that your children are loving the non-mainstream veggies such as artichokes! I love 'em too!....however I'm also a carb loader, a frequent carb loader! :lmao:

We actually have a lot less room in the car this time because last time we had a minivan...now we have a cross-over, so it's much smaller (no third row). I love our car though, drives much nicer than the minivan did, as good as it was!

Yes, we are leaving the stroller there. It wasn't a very expensive one, but we've had it for years (it's the umbrella-type but also very sturdy). We started using it when my older son was 7 months old, and then we used it again for my little one once he was 7 months (we hated the HUGE stroller before that!). When we got rid of the bigger stroller, we tried to donate it but they wouldn't accept it (old model). Because of that we didn't want to sell it (we were afraid it wouldn't be safe), so we threw it out. Someone ended up taking it from the street before the sanitation truck took it away though. So we will do the same with this one, but we won't need it anymore after WDW so we will just leave it there.

Sorry I've been MIA!

It's been cra-zazy here! Between work, gym, taking care of the sick hubster, Memorial Day party, graduation parties, planning a trip back east (not to WDW :sad1:, but will still be fun!), etc, I've had no time to work on anything Disney related!

I'm such a disappointment I know! :lmao:

BUT! DH will be making his appearance either this weekend or next Monday since school will be dunzo for him! I'm going to see if he'll get his own username but I doubt he'll do that...would be cute though! :cutie:

Anyways, I'm sure everyones life has been crazy busy too!

So please stick around and don't go anywhere!!!

By the way, I have a few friends leaving to WDW soon...i know bonnie's leaving in a little over a month, and allegra, should be leaving either this week or next! Who else???

We leave in 5 weeks from tomorrow for our big road trip, but we check in at BWV 5 days after that! Getting close!!

I understand about being busy this time of year. We are always busy in May & June between birthdays, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Memorial Day, and any graduations that may be thrown into the mix.

Unfortunately, I knocked my back out pretty bad a few days ago. I went to the doctor yesterday and he told me to take Advil and also gave me Flexeril (muscle relaxer). I didn't go to work yesterday or today, hoping to go tomorrow but I have to see how I feel. Yesterday morning was the absolute worst of it. I had a lot of trouble getting out of bed, didn't think I would be able to at all on my own, but eventually I did (though painfully :sad1:). The doctor said no working out for 2 weeks, then I have to go very light and take it very slowly. I told him I will be on a long car trip in 5 weeks and he said I will be fine for that. Right now though this is miserable, although getting better slowly.

Oh no!!! :flower3: I hope you feel better!!! What were you doing to throw your back out?

I hope it feels better by the time your trip rolls around...I'm sure it will though with medication and rest....eek but it's the end of the school year for you, so hopefully you'll be able to go back soon...definitely do not rush it!!

We're here at WDW now!!!...and having a great time!! And of course, doing it deluxe!

Checking my email on the bus from my iPhone!:lmao: Don't worry...we're definitely having a blast and loooovvving the food! Tomorrow's Flying Fish thanks to your recommendation!:thumbsup2

We are back and loved California Grill Thanks for the recommendation and my DH was sick on our first night of Flying fish so we went back our last day so he could try it. My kids really loved it. They have great healthy kid options and you can not beat the chocolate Mickey puzzle that you get to paint and the chocolate cupcake with oreos and gummy worm on top.

We love the Yak and Yetti for linch in the animal Kingdom. The Miso Salmon is wonderful and I liked the lettuce wraps. Something my DH and I did on this trip with all the food on Deluxe was we shared a TS at Yak and Yetti. Which worked out great and then we could use the extra one at a sig.

Thanks for the rec. We will do Deluxe again if we can as we like the sit down air conditioning table services, character meals for the kids, and signature resterants for us.

Omgoodness, you HAVE to tell me how you like FF when you can! You'll seriously love it!!!

Jealous that you're on a disney bus, and I'm on a chair in my living room no where NEAR the world!! :lmao:

I'm sooo glad to hear you were happy with Cali Grill! Isn't it wonderful!? Gosh, not a great way to start a vacation! I'm glad you were determined to make it to Flying Fish your last night! :thumbsup2

I really want to try Yak and Yeti next time for sure!! DH is the one we need to convince though! :lmao:

Yay!!! Deluxe Plan is awesome isn't it!! Definitely gives you more freedom and options for meals!!!

I'm so glad your trip turned out magical! :wizard:

Lesha, I LOVED your review:lovestruc. I've been scouring the review boards in preparation for DH and my upcoming trip (our first since we were both 9) and yours is my favorite! Your great pictures, descriptions, and quick wit made it a pleasure to read (and re-read). So thanks so much for your posts!
Since you had such great (and in depth) reviews of a bunch of the restaurants we're considering, I was wondering if I could get your opinion on something.
I'm currently trying to decide between Artist Point and Flying Fish for our last signature of the trip. Any advice? DH and I are both 25, both like seafood & fish, and I love trying new and unusual foods.

DH!!! You better be checkin' out those Mickey Waffles!!! :rotfl:

This was the (one of the) funniest things I read in your review....hahaha :rotfl:

Lesha, I LOVED your review:lovestruc. I've been scouring the review boards in preparation for DH and my upcoming trip (our first since we were both 9) and yours is my favorite! Your great pictures, descriptions, and quick wit made it a pleasure to read (and re-read). So thanks so much for your posts!
Since you had such great (and in depth) reviews of a bunch of the restaurants we're considering, I was wondering if I could get your opinion on something.

Sorry it took so long to write back! I'm having issues with my subscriptions! :confused3

Oh goodness you put me in a baaad position...both of those places are WONDERFUL! If you're looking for something a little more adventurous, I would definitely consider Flying Fish! Their menu is fresh, delicious, and succulent! I would think that AP's menu is a little on the safe side, but still great!

Any decision you make will be fantastic though! Those two restaurants are the best!

I hope you have the best time EVER on your trip!!! :cool1:

:rotfl2: Omgosh I know!! I can't believe I even got that picture!! When I was uploading all my pics to iPhoto, I saw this and was like WTH!!! :lmao: It was a great, classic shot!

I just found your thread today and read through all your reviews - I loved it! It sounds like you had great experiences everywhere! It's too bad your celebrations weren't mentioned everywhere though! :confused3 Citricos had you covered though, didn't they! :cool1:

Looking forward to reading your Final Thoughts, Part 2!
