We´ve always stayed offsite and last year was our first year in a villa, which we loved. I just loved the amenities of a villa, the space, private pool, etc.
This year we decided to do a split stay since the kids have always wanted to stay at one of the Disney hotels.
We´re doing a week in a villa and the next week in two rooms at ASMU. The kids are super excited but I´m beginning to doubt my decision. I don´t want to back out of my hotel reservation, the kids would be mad, and I´m really looking forward to trying the DDP for the first time, but I just think I´ll REALLY miss the villa.

Oh, well, there will be a Disney trip after this one...

Vent over!

The Disney theming for kids is magical. You will miss having a villa, but the kids will love the All Stars.

Next time, reverse the order; stay onsite then move to the larger accommodations off site. It will seem like more of a relaxing vacation.

I think you will find staying onsite very magical. If you really miss your villa that much, at least you tried staying onsite one time and next time you will stay at your villa.

Thanks guys!

I´m sure I will be o.k. Just got so excited when I checked out the pics of the villa again, and kind of dissapointed we won´t be staying there for 2 weeks like last time. But hey, I´m a "gott a try everything once" kinda gal!!! ;)

Your post when you get back from your trip might be.....

OH NO...I loved staying onsite....but I did miss the spacious villa....off to buy some DVC points:goodvibes

I think you will love staying onsite....try some great Disney Dining, being onsite 24/7 is worth so much. Your kids will love the allstars.
Happy planning

Ha, ha, ha:rotfl2:
Don´t think so, but thanks for the encouragement :lmao:

We have a large family, too, but we're just the opposite!

We all have our own rooms at home, a pool in our back yard, and I don't want to cook while on vacation. So, when we go to Disney World... we want to stay in Disney World. We love being in the middle of the magic.

When we take a beach vacation, it's a different type of vacation, so then we do want larger accommodations, with more home-like amenties.

I think you'll enjoy your Disney stay.

Maybe you might want to think about staying at one of the Disney Villa's? A lot more money but you and your family will have the best of both worlds:thumbsup2 It would be worth it IMHO

Yeah as a PP said, would it be a huge price difference to get a 1 bedroom villa rather than 2 rooms at a value?

We tried one of those huge offsite villas one time and you couldn't pay me to do it again. The driving in and parking at every park, ugh! :faint: ... and not being able to go back for breaks easily. We love to hop back and forth from the parks during the day ... a few hours in the morning, back to the hotel for swimming, then dinner at a resort and then off to a different park at night, you'd go crazy trying to do that offsite.

Once you stay onsite you may never go off again! ;)

First of all a 1 bedroom villa wouldn´t be big enough, it only sleeps 4. And yes, I believe the price difference would be pretty huge, considering that I´m only paying $175 per night for 2 rooms at a value.

I guess we travel differently. We love the freedom of having our own car and we never do midday breaks and don´t parkhop either. We usually always stay at one park from early morning till late night. Different strokes for different folks :)

Freyja, you will have fun onsite! 2 rooms will be enough space for a week. I agree that I would have switched them around with the villa second, but either way will work out. I'm not a Value girl, just a frugal one, but our family enjoyed Pop Century.

We like offsite! We like onsite too, but as long as your offsite place is close in, it's an easy drive and often faster to get back to than an onsite resort. Trust me on this, as we have stayed both on & off-site several times.

Having more than one room, lots of beds, a kitchen and a washer/dryer is such a treat! We don't really cook on vacation but it's sure nice to have a full size fridge and a microwave. The laundry is just convenient since we always do wash at least one time.

We've tried several resorts, including DVC villas over the years and each time, I set myself up to enjoy the resort theming by reading about the resort, and really getting in the mood for that particular resort. We're 2 adults in our 30's and we loved the funky theming of POP! We also loved the laidback, romantic theming of POR. It all depends on your mindframe going into the trip. If you think positively about the theming, you'll love the resort you're staying at. Yes, you'll miss the room that a villa offers, but you'll get over that if you really set yourself up for a fun time at your resort.

When you stay on property - don't forget to ask for a wake-up call and use the speaker feature so the kids can hear it too. It will make up for missing the villa. We did it and had to to do it again the next day so we could use the video camera to tape it. Yes, we have video of the phone - nothing else - so we can hear the wake up call over and over again! :rotfl:

OP, you might want to consider taking midday breaks while staying on property. This way you can take advantage of the pool, assuming the weather is premitting. I've never stayed offsite. It just wouldn't seem as magical to me.

I really love taking advantage of ME. Something you can't do offisite. Also, be sure to use package delivery to your resort. You'll also be able to do EMH, so be sure to plan for that as well.

From what I´ve heard, it´s not much quicker to get to the resort from the parks than to our villa in Indian Creek. If that´s right, I have a hard time imagening us go back for a midday break. I just have the feeling that it would be too much of a hassle and that in the end we would end up with someone not wanting to go back, rather wanting to do something else, etc.

However, we´re definately hoping to be able to try out the pool a couple of times.

Unfortunately we can´t take advantage of ME since we´re flying out of Sanford.

But I´m sure we´ll make plenty of wonderful memories there. The resort looks like a very fun place to be and well, if I really do miss the villa that much, at least I can say "been there done that" and can go back to our old strategy next year :)
