UGH! The doorbell just rang and dh went to the door to find 2 deputies...a verbal warning for our dogs barking! UGH - we have been trying to no avail to get rid of two of our doggies b/c we got an "anonymous" letter in the mail a few weeks ago. It makes me so mad only b/c we were the 1st house on our street and we have been here more than 5 yrs. The letter and call to sherriff came in from the street behind us that has newly built houses!

Anyone want a black lab doggy and/or a jack russell mix?!?!? :confused3 :confused3 They are good dogs and we hate to get rid of them, but nothing stops the barking. they didn't bark until recently when we had four dogs move in across the street.

I guess if the sherriff comes to your house, that is one of the best reasons why it could?

Did you possibly look into training or othe methods to get them to stop barking. Better yet- how about keeping them indoors w/ play time at a park and such??

I live smack inbetween 2 houses w/ awful barking. I've been known to make a call myself. I cannot stand the barking. I'm talking all day/ all night barking.

I wish you luck in your search for a good home if thats what it comes down to.

Have you tried no-bark collars on them? :confused3
It's a shame you have to get rid of your pets that way.

Since they didn't bark before the other dogs moved in, is it possible to put up a fence so that they can't see the other dogs?

This is a method I wondered about also. Have you considered it? No matter what you decide to do, if you keep them...you will have to be very "energetic" about keeping at the training and not give up on it....I wish you luck.....

A good trainer will help a lot, I think. Shame to get rid of your dogs over something that maybe can be rectified. If you know who is complaining maybe you could drop by and have a friendly talk with them. If they know you are trying, they might lay off.

How about bringing them inside?

I rarely leave my dogs outside to bark--only when I really can't let them in--ie I'm in the middle of scrubbing a toilet or the kitchen floor. Then they will let out some "woofs" when they want in, but it's not too bad. My dogs were just outside and one started barking. I was outside calling her in within a few seconds. It's night time and I don't want them to be a nuisance to the neighbors.

I would most certainly try obedience training first. The dogs should be able to either come to you when called or be given a "quiet" command. You can try a bark collar. I had one that I used for our barker, but stopped using it since I didn't want to discourage barking when someone was approaching our house. Now when she barks at something I tell her "good bark" and then give her a "quiet" command. She still wants to bark, but just runs around whining instead. This is when she's in our house--she doesn't bark much outside and like I've said, I bring her in when she barks outside.

Or....why not bring them in at night so neighbors can sleep? A possibility? :)

Ah, I see T&B posted just before me with the same thought! :teeth:

Could you bring your dogs inside when you think the people that complained might be home? Are the new dogs across the street barking also? What about obedience school for your dogs? Perhaps they could be trained not to bark. I know you must be frustrated, but it's not fair to ask neighbors, new or not, to listen to barking dogs (or loud music, or yelling, etc, whatever the case may be). I hope you find a way to keep your pets, if that is what you want.

I agree. I have a JRT mix that loves to bark, but only outside when he sees or hears another dog. Inside he is quiet, he doesn't even bark if there is someone at the door.

This is what I did. Get a spray bottle, fill it with water, and when your dog is doing something it shouldnt, spray him/her.

When we moved into our current home last spring, my dogs would go to the fence and bark at the neighbors dos and/or neighbors. So I started doing that. Think it was a tip from Monty Dog. And it worked.

Please dont just let your dog bark. It is very nerve wracking.

usually they are quiet at nite ... we did leave them inside all the time until ds was born. we put our no-bark machine outside tonite and that shut them right up.

i don't know who is complaining. they did say it was not from our street, it was the new neighborhood behind us. very perplexed ... not sure what to do, I surely can't take them to the pound! We have had one of them 6 yrs... :(

:confused3 :confused3 :confused3 What the heck is a no-bark machine???

Our dogs are bad with the barking when we go camping. The sight of the other dogs and people strolling by really get them going. We squirt them with a watergun and it seems to work fine. Now we usually just have to say their names and hold up the water pistol and they stop. At home unless it's nice and we're outside they just go out to do their business and come back in.

(((LYNETTE))) If I didn't already have 4 animals I would offer to help you out. Surely you can find someone to take them soon.

lololol! it is a small little thing that emits a wierd noise thay only dogs can hear... they shut up just when they see the thing, so maybe that will help out ?!?!?

Maybe you can let them out one at a time. My neighbors dogs bark, but the female seems to start it and then they both start going. We had a barking dog next door when I was growing up and it was awful. I am so fortunate with my dogs neither one of them barks unless someone is at the door or coming in the house.
