Ugh...rug pulled out from under me!

Sigh....I called MS to do 2 things...
First, last year I switched from AKV to BCV at 7 mth window.....I noticed I had 38 pts in holding and figured it was left over from the switch..not fully understanding how it works...
When I researched my options for using the 38 pts, I realized they would expire at the end of Sept...sigh. Well, can't use them for my Oct trip then...
Fortunately, I am going to WDW but staying off site for a week in Feb, so I think..hey...I'll stay on site for one night on my daughter's birthday.
MS was great - found me a 1 br and made the reservation - but as we were talking, it seems he didn't think my points should have gone into holding...he thought it should have been bnkble so that I could apply them to my Oct trip, so he put me on hold to check it out. After waiting for 10 min or so, he comes back on....
Just my luck..turns out that the 38 pts in holding were a glitch...when we checked out this past Nov, it took that last day and both checked us out AND cancelled us...so, I didn't have 38 pts at all, lol.
Oh well...at least I had no trouble reserving my F&W trip for Oct...I hope I can switch to BCV at the 7 month window like I did last year!

Wow! Bummer.. So sorry that your rug moved..... I had an experience that was similar to yours, but what happened to me was that when I added up the points I had banked/borrowed/used for the last 3 vacations, the numbers didn't jive. So I called MS and they told me that their numbers in their computer were what I thought they should be but the Member Website showed different. She assured me that I wasn't losing any points and so far, I haven't...

Hey - for only a few nights, why not use the new "40% discount on select DVC stays" which was just announced. I would save my points!

I think the discounts (20% Values 30% Moderates 40% Delux and select DVC) kicks in after Easter/Spring Break time frame.

I thought Iger said they would be cutting back discounts in 2010.....I guess the bean counters are not happy with advance reservations.

That is a nice discount, and I would if we actually needed it...
I have a week booked already at my off site timeshare - I was just going to throw those 38 points at an on-site room and stay for on night during that week just for the fun of it...Feb 24 is my daughter's birthday - so I figured maybe that night stay onsite and have less driving around - I would still be checked in at the other place...so, it was just something I was going to do because I figured if I didn't find a way to use those holding points, I'd just lose them anyway....

A similar thing happened to us at our november trip last year . We checked out on a monday ,looked at our check out papers and all seemed fine , but when we got home checked acct on mws and had 21 points in holding . MS at okw had us checking out on that sunday and refunded the points by mistake owe well .

Always keep an eye on your points. I changed a reservation and they somehow ended up putting the few points I had left to bank in holding. It was easily fixed after I showed that not only did I not change a reservation within the 30 day period (it was around day 35), I used MORE points. Since their records matched my information, it was easily fixed but I verify everything.

Good luck with your switch. I'll be trying for a one night switch later this month.

Glad it worked out for you, Lauren, even if it didn't really work out. That whole thing doesn't make you have a lot of faith in the DVC computer system, does it?

Yes, I'm learning from personal experience and other members posts that we can't just assume everything is ok, we have to monitor our accounts to make sure everything is as it should be. I'm constantly shocked by the number of owners I come across while staying at Disney that have no idea of what they own or how to best use it. I always refer them to this site so they can learn something as I am constantly doing thanks to this community.
