I have to take 2 more of the 7 total Praxis Exams tomorrow to obtain my teaching certificate in this state. I feel as though I should be studying.....but as you can see, I am not! ;) The Curriculum and Instruction is easy to study for, but the General Knowledge is 2 hours of questions on anything from Art History to Math to Music to Science!!!!!

Please send me a sprinkle of PD is there is any around! Only one more test to go in January!

OK..I'm done venting..thanks for listening!

Good luck with these exams. I'm sure you will do very well.

Sending tons of PD your way. I am sure you will do just fine.

PD heading your way!!! You'll do fine. I had to take these a few years ago and I remember how stressed I was. They really were a lot easier than I had hoped.

My DD is a sophomore in college and she is taking two of the Praxis exams here in NH tomorrow morning. She has been studying but is a little nervous to say the least.

Best of luck to you! I hope you score high and sail right thru them!! :)

The Praxis exams are killing all my classmates in my social studies credential program. I luckily passed the SS ones after two tries, but I have a friend (who knows waaaaay more history than I do) who is taking them again tomorrow for the sixth time! Not only do they cost ~$100 a pop, but the past three times, she's only missed by 3 points.
CA has one of the highest required passing scores of any state (yet, our ed program is among the last in the nation, hmmm), and the social studies tests (much like the Gen-Ed tests) can cover seven subject matters (US history, World History, current events, econ, gov't, geography, psych). Plus, they're NOT multiple choice, all essays! I can't believe it only took me two tries!

Best of luck! Sleep well and eat a good breakfast!

As a veteran teacher, I can't help but think these tests are totally stupid. My student teacher last year had a heck of a time. She moved to Arizona to teach because the passing score there was lower than Ohio.
Here is the brain surgery involved in the state dept. of education--there is a teacher shortage growing worse every day--so lets increase the requirements for obtaining a certificate, and then make keeping it more difficult all the time with continuing ed. requirements, etc.
Thank God I got my permanent certificate before that was done away with and I was grandfathered in.
Good luck anyway--now I got to vent too!:D

Good Luck Karen {and everyone else taking the exam}.:D I'm taking the them next year and am curious...

OK to vent Rock'n Robin! :D Thanks for sharing your insights. :) I'm writing a term paper on "Alternative Licensure" and have been surprised by how dramatic the teacher shortage situation has become. What is even more upsetting though, is the large number of teachers that leave the profession. Maybe the problem isn't "How to attract and certify teachers", but "How to retain and support good teachers". yikes!

Whew......they are over! I left the house at 6:15am and got home at 5:30pm with a delicious meal waiting for me from DH! My brain is mush, so I think it is a good night sit relax here on the DIS!

Thanks for all the well wishes!
