What a shocker! She went for her annual check up and the vet said they now give Lab's the lyme's vac. but need to test first...her test came back a very strong positive! She shows no signs, no change in personality...total shock....so now we have a month of pills! Anyone have experience with lymes and dogs? I really hope we won't have any future problems...She isn't even 3 yet!
Ticks have been really bad here she does use a vet tic collar

YIKES. I didn't know dogs could get lyme's. I suppose it makes sense, though. No experience with this. I hope your dog is good about taking the pills.

Sorry to hear that! Hope the pills take care of it completely. I don't have any advice or anything but I have a fur baby too and know it's tough when something is wrong with them.

and it is good to have this new test........I am glad that you can have treatment for this.......hugs to you and your fur baby

Did you vet mention why they are not giving labs the lyme vaccine? I got my lab vaccinated the first year we had him, then the new vet said that labs can have an adverse reaction.

We use Frontline for ticks, seems to help. Maybe I will get my lab tested just to be sure. My neighbors very healthy golden retriever died from lymes', it was in the late stages though. What county of PA are you in?

Aww, how scary! It is good you caught it before dog got sick.

I have a golden retriever and he's been getting the lyme vaccination ever since I got him. No adverse reactions here. My daughter had lyme disease when she was 5. That was not fun. Best of luck to you and your "baby".

I'm in Delaware COunty. Ticks have been really bad we use the front line collar. It has worked the best out of all of the collars. We just started finding ticks on her about the past 2 weeks. Got a new collar.
Basically they said dogs had adverse reaction to the vaccine. But at the latest conf he went to they were now suggesting it especially because of where we live.
She took her 5 pills last night with out too much problems but no idea how day 15 or so will be!

Aww, I hope she's better soon.

Hoping she does well with the meds, Spinning. So sorry to hear that. She will be good as new soon.

Hope you and your family have a great Thanksgiving. :wave2:

We had a rottie the had Lyme when he was about 4...he showed symptoms of lameness in his back legs. He was SOO sick, we fed him rice & hambuger to get him to eat! We really thought we were going to lose him!

3 days after starting the meds he was up & running with the other dogs. You would never have known he had been ill.

6 years later...he bite my husband one night out of the blue.!! No reason whatever! WEll, DH ended up getting sticthes, & 3 days later ended up back in the hosptial with cellulitis!

The dog was put down after talking to the vet...they have seen cases of dogs getting demetia years after having Lyme even with good treatment! Having 6 kids we just couldn't chance him biting one of them. It was one of the 10 hardest things I've had to do.

Hope all is well....

Do specific types of dogs get lyme while others do not? Just the way its posted sounds like they only test certain dogs...

Our shepherd/hound mix stopped eating and we had to figure out why. After a bunch of testing it turned out to be Lyme.
After about 3 days of pills he was back to his old self. Appetite and all.
That was 2 years ago. He's still doing great.

We learned something else about Jack due to that testing. An xray revealed that he has over a dozen pieces of bird shot in his rump and side. How awful is that? I can't believe someone could shoot this sweet dog. He was adopted and the vet figured it probably happened while he was on the run. Poor guy.

Glad you caught it early without having to deal with any symptoms.
