OK, maybe not throwing in the towel that easily but this trip is off to a rocky start. We're in a 1BR Boardwalk view room--no, we're in the Boardwalk view room I desperately DID NOT WANT. The one RIGHT next to Jellyrolls, the last room at the end of the long, long hall. My husband has health problems and this is a really long walk. He gets a scooter in the park but we're trying to avoid having one all the time, because it's such a hassle on the buses. Not to mention the Jellyrolls issues-- noise and too many twenty-somethings in one place with too much alcohol. We've already seen the police here for the first altercation of the trip. No other rooms available. I begged. I even asked to switch to a preferred room, since it's the same points. None available.

And our room card wouldn't work at Fultons. Good thing we brought the credit card with us as a backup or we'd be washing dishes there tonight!

Please understand--we love the BWV. We own here. We're in the middle of buying more points. We're also huge Disney fans. We won't bring people with us unless they promise not to say one bad word about Disney. I know what the halls are like here. But so help me God, we get stuck down here more often than not, it seems. And it's unfortunately coloring my view of this whole trip. When you're stuck down here, you don't even want to run down to the stores or over to the park for a little while. You weigh everything against this long walk!

It's been a year since we were here. We really like coming twice a year (and we're already booked for December) but maybe we're getting too darned old for this! I'm not rolling with the punches with stuff like lousy rooms anymore.Or being the last stop on the bus. Why does the Disney bus go to the non-Disney hotels (Swan and Dolphin) first? Why are there 5 hotels on one bus? Maybe we need to go stay at BLT for a few trips!

I need some kind of intervention for being cranky or this is not going to be a fun trip! Someone please hit me upside my head so I feel better lol.

So sorry and I hope it gets better! I think your experience is one of the problems I am feeling with DVC lately -- inconsistency. I am a die-hard DVC fan usually but when one room is dirty, or too far down some crazy long hall-way, or noisy, or has a bad view, etc. it just taints the trip. You feel like you are at the mercy of the room assignors to have a good trip or not and there is something not right about that!

Oh that is terrible! You should really tell how you feel to someone. Express your love for the company and how every trip has been a magical one. Just speak from your heart (and to a manager) and see what you can get. Good luck. Remember a bad day in Disney is still better than a good day at home.

I'm just feeling like they see me coming and say, "Yeah, let's give her the one room she doesn't want!" Like getting the table at the restaurant across from the kitchen--I've finally in my old age started refusing the lousy seats in restaurants! And here I am in the "ha-ha" room--I remember that term from the book "Hotel" years ago. The room they assign dead last because no one wants it lol. Or give it to the person they think won't complain about it. Well, I guess someone has to get it. It just seems to be our turn way too often!

I really hate feeling this way. Thanks for understanding--I guess we all feel this way from time to time.

I feel and understand your pain. I stayed in that exact room two trips in a row and then I sold Boardwalk. If you are in a room at the end of the hall, it seems like 1/2 mile to the front desk. IF you get a good location at Boardwalk, it is great.

I never understand why some people slam SSR for being too spread out, I think you walk more at Boardwalk.

I guess that since it is inside, it doesn't seem as far.

appleorchard,
We also seem to get that room often. We now rent a scooter for the week so DH doesn't have to do the long trek. The other BW view rooms I don't like are x051 rooms on the corner because then are not really direct BW view, and the first floor BW view rooms next to the model.
Now having said that, the x001 rooms like yours have a great view of fireworks, IMO!
And one more thing: We were supposed to be there right now but DH's health problems kicked up and he ended up in the hospital, so we had to cancel at the last minute. Because our MN winter has been so horrific I was REALLY looking forward to Flower and Garden and catching some rays by the pool. I would gladly be in ANY room at the BW right now. My worries about room location vanished a few years ago when all of our trips going forward became so tenuous. Funny how a person's perspective changes once health problems enter the picture. Hope you can still find some magic!

Well, the view is lovely this am, anyway! Jean, the medical situation is exactly why this bugs me. My DH had a liver transplant 3 years ago and is in kidney failure now. We hate to rent a scooter here because of the bus hassle but will probably have to go back to it. If he has to go on dialysis, well, you just never know which trip will be your last. I can't see dialysis and Disney mixing well, although if the DVC owners keep getting older... I don't understand why we get these rooms so often, but suspect it's because we don't stay a full week and these are what's left when you come in on a Thursday. I won't do Boardwalk view again; at least there are normally more preferred views to choose from. Hope your DH is doing ok.

My husband has ESRD, and we do home hemo dialysis. You can do Disney and dialysis, it just takes some arranging. There is a dialysis clinic very close by, for those who are in-center--and it has one of the best reputations. If you do home hemo, like we do, there is never a problem with removing boxes and bags of trash, and the mousekeepers leave the machine alone.

It's like any other physical or mental disability...you have to just make some accomodations, and accept some limitations. But you can still live your life.

Ask to be switched to OKW or SSR where it will be quieter. Be sure to ask for a lower level room

Our one trip where we stayed in a BWV 1 bedroom, we had the room right by Jellyrolls, but on the top floor. We loved the room, and since we are a family with older kids, it worked out nicely for us. Wish that Disney would take into account physical limitations when assigning room. We don't mind getting the rooms with longer walks, but in 30 years, we may feel differently!

Are there golf view rooms to request there? Otherwise, the views there just don't compare to BW view, looking out over the water. Heaven !:cloud9:

OP, I hope you are able to have a good vacation, however you chose to resolve the room/walking problem. :grouphug:

Yes, we'll make the best of it. We're just so far even from the quiet pool, which DH dearly loves. My own fault for taking a Boardwalk view; I love looking at the Boardwalk (and last night's near arrest was interesting lol) but I hate the locations of these end rooms. Live and learn! They did offer us a room switch for Saturday but DH is leaving Tuesday, so that's not worth the trouble. And there's a $45 charge for switching rooms, besides!

The far (from the pool) Grandstand buildings have a wonderfully composed. And tranquil view containing SSR landscaping, a golfcourse fairway, the river with boats going to OKW, with a backdrop of mature pines.

Even most of the near Grandstand buildings can see some golf course. (But may not have water)

Then there are Congress Park with the lake/DTD views. (And the CP pool with lake view may be one of the best pool settings)

I sympathize with you. At BCV last year, we were all the way down on the far end and the walk was quite long. Really made me think twice about running to the store, etc.

Unfortunately there are always going to be those rooms that no one wants and there would be a lot of people making reasons why they can't take them, if Disney tried to implement some limitations in assigning them. Hope your trip improves!!

Seems Like you would be able to mention the heath issue, as stated in your request and get switched to a room more accommodating...

I would just go down and ask to speak to a manager, let thewm know about DH's medical issue and asked to be reassigned due to heath related issues...

I think they would move you...I hope you Guys have a great stay nothing at Disney should be less than perfect I wish that they find someway of making your trip more Magical for you. GOOD LUCK,,,,,

I've had gourgous water views at OKW and SSR! You should visit them and ask for a tour of a villa with a water view. The golf course views are beautiful too. You might find the peaceful surroundings enjoyable. Good Luck Exploring!

Could you have requested a room not at the end of the long hall at the time you made the reservation and stated it was for medical reasons? I know that when we go to OKW with my dad, who has limited mobility issues, we always ask for a first floor unit because of medical issues and always have gotten it. I've been told that if you ask the CM to note that the request is because of medical issues it will be honored.

I'm so sorry your vacation is less than what you had hoped for. Those long hallways are why, although we own at BWV, we always stay at OKW.

I know room requests are not guaranteed but they are often granted. Did you make a room request for this trip?, if not that may be an option in the future. If you've purchased BWV and that's where you like to stay then you shouldn't have to change resorts. I make simple room requests (floor/area)at BWV and SSR and to date they've always been granted!

I don't know what can be done to save this trip for you, but just take a deep breath, you're on vacation, maybe this time you need the scooter to get around the resort.

Hope things get better!

OP, I, too, can be pretty grumpy under certain conditions.
I just wanted to give you one of these  and hope it gets much better from here.:flower3:
