Ugh. I just washed DD's IPod touch

just another positive story, I washed my son's ipod and then put it in rice and it was came out ok. Hope it works out for you.

Even better than rice (I imagine you can get to rice quicker so stick it in there) is silica beads. They're what's in those little packets in some foods and other stuff to pull moisture out. You may have to order online but it's still cheaper than a new iPod touch! Good luck!

You can get silica gel in bulk at Michaels, ACMoore, etc. It's used to dry flowers.

Both the rice and the silica gel should be dried out (rejuvenated; redessicated) periodically and, if not new, dried out before first usage. Bake it in the oven (without the iPod inside and without the plastic bag) for a few hours at very low heat say 150-200 degrees.

Then take the rice (or silica) out, let it cool down, pour it back into the bag, and throw the iPod back in.

The rice can still be eaten although we suggest another drying out at the very end if not to be cooked immediately.

Thanks, everyone. Still not working (2 days later). May try to bake the rice to dry it out. Thanks for the suggestion.

Good news is DD is taking this very well. I'll probably replace it but she seems like she's fine either way.

Don't give up hope yet!! Last Christmas we my Mom go us a $300+ underwater camera. Days later we took it to Disney. My Boys had a blast using it in the pool. One of them (never fessed up who) was trying to make a video & tried turning (& pressing) the "volume" button which in fact was the lock!! Underwater it went with the back completely open! I nearly cried knowing I could never afford to replace it. After 2 days in the rice it turned on with a black screen. After 3 days it turned on with a partially black screen but yo could see water in in. After 6 days it worked good as new!!
If you haven't done it already, I'd take it apart. Take off the back over & battery. Put those in the rice too.
Good luck!!

So worth purchasing the warrantys for these things, it cost us 40.00 but my son dropped his Ipod touch and broke the screen..we shipped back within a week we had a gift card for toys r us in the mail and he had a new one the next day..I am not usually one to buy those but on electronics I do..We did the rice trick for a phone one time and it worked..

I recently did the exact same thing. My iphone was completely dead when it came out of the washer. We dried it off, put it in rice in a baggie and sealed it up. Several days later, tried it and nothing. Put it back in for a few more days. Took it out again and plugged it in, and voila! It started charging. Inside of the screen was still wet for a week or so, but everyday a little more dried and today it is back to normal. So...if you are patient, you may not have to buy a new one. Good Luck!! :goodvibes

My fully clothed husband and his iPhone fell into the ocean last Summer.

Rice dried them both out just fine. It took several days, though.

When you put the iPod in rice are you supposed to take it apart first (battery) or do you put the whole thing in rice?

Thanks again for the help. Sadly, the IPod has not come back to life. I purchased a 5th gen. 32gb used IPod on Cowboom for $170. It's in very good condition. Only problem now is my 8 year old is complaining that his IPod isn't as good.

Sorry it did not work out for you. Thank you for the update.
