A little off topic, but I had to share this story. My sister in law just came home from a cruise, and said she got something for my dh. They had an "art auction" on the ship, and she bought him a Disney print of golf (dh is a big golfer) Well, it turns out it's a Bugs Bunny print, and she paid $100 for it (overpaid, since it wasn't framed)

Well, it turns out she wanted dh to reimburse her for it, since she can't afford that much money at all.

So, dh had to buy the print, which we never wanted to begin with.

Now I have to pay and get it framed, so we can donate it to our school auction.

I know she means well, but good grief........what a tacky thing to do (essentially, she wanted the fun of buying something at the auction, I think)

What a waste of money.........oh well

Huhh??? She buys your DH a present yet wants him to pay??? Did he at any time say something like, "Pick something up for me." or something like that? That doesn't make any sense that he should pay for an unasked for "gift".

But, it sounds like something my family would do too.

Tacky, I agree. You better speak up on her next trip and tell her NOT to bring you and your family any "GIFTS".

I wouldn't have paid her for it unless it is something you had told her to look for and that you would pay her back.

I agree with the others: unless he requested something from the art auction, I don't think he's under any obligation to pay for this print. However, I'm not sure just how he could go about getting out of it gracefully!

Oh my!!! Tacky with a capital T! I love the idea of giving it to her for Christmas. Hopefully it's a standard size and you can buy an inexpensive frame for it off-the-rack at Michael's rather than custom framing. "We know how much you loved this print, so we had it framed for you!" :rotfl:

Boy, that's some "gift". I agree with a previous poster that you need to tell her to please not do that in the future. Of course, in a loving way. :love2:
