Ok, for four years we've been selling on Ebay. We've rarely had any problems with anything breaking with one exception.

For the past six months or so, we've been selling PC's/laptops.
Last week, we packed a PC. We used an entire 12 foot roll of bubble tape, plus packed it well. It took my Dh over an hour to pack it correctly. DH also packs PCs in his job, so he is aware of what it going on.

We get this nasty email saying that it was broken. We usually ask for pictures for proof, and he never supplied it. We offered for him to mail back the PC (it only cost $12) and we would mail him another one for FREE and not charge him shipping the second time. He threatened to sue us, and get a lawyer. (Mind you the sale was only $53. This buyer neglected to buy insurance, so technically we were being nice by offering a swap replacement.

We never heard from him again, well he did say he was going to sue and he would see us at the courthouse!

Well, today we get a negative from him. No word, no no thanks I wont return it whatever. We have no idea if the PC was really broken or not.. or if he was just trying to scam us.

How would you word the comment back?

I would write something like:

Tried to offer replacement item for return of the one broken in mail--but offer was rejected.

I'm not sure how many characters you're allowed, but how about:
"Insurance not purchased. Offered to exchange item but buyer refused."

"Offered full refund, buyer would not return item, expected refund WITHOUT return." You have 80 characters max.

I like that.

Maybe it would be wise to make insurance mandatory in the future. Not sure though.

Sounds like a scam artist to me. Especially if you were willing to replace it. If he won't send it back, then it is his problem. The feedback suggestions listed are good.

or maybe
Said broken in transit, buyer expected refund w/o returning. Wants $$$ & item

I don't sell a lot of fragile items, but when I do, I include insurance as part of the shipping/handling price and state this in the auction. Just saves me from the potential of dealing with a lot of problems, I think.

Off the subject, but I also put Delivery Confirmation on everything--I sell mostly books and D.C. is only 13 cents when you use Shipping Assistant.

For reply to negative feedback, DMRick suggested:
Said broken in transit, buyer expected refund w/o returning. Wants $$$ & item.

I like this response!

Or maybe... "Buyer is a Jerk!!" :)

Edited to fix major goof in wording.

Thanks for all your great suggestions!

I'm not sure what DH is going to post up. I really liked DMRick's and the Ebay buyer is a JERK comment.

I always use DC as well. It did arrive there, per the DC transaction.

Anyway, thanks for your suggestions.

At the risk of hi-jacking this thread.. Two days ago (10 days after buyer purchased an item from us and many invoices sent) I sent a message to buyer saying "please respond, I don't want to leave negative feedback". Haven't heard a thing. How do I handle this? (I'm sure I could find the answer on an eBay thread somewhere on this board IF I had time to look through them all!;) )
