DH is a teacher. His last day of school was supposed to be June 8th.

So we have 5 nights booked at OKW starting on June 19th. Sounds great, right?

Well, he's up to 5 snow days and it looks like tomorrow is going to be number 6.

That's all we can afford to have!!! Any more snow days tacked on at the end of the school year and we can't do our trip as planned! I'm so worried about this! It's for our ten year wedding anniversary - and we'll actually be down there for the day of our anniversary with our first ever V&A reservation booked for that day. Plus, we have all of our ADR's booked for the rest of the trip!

We don't have enough points to use to do the same amount of time pushed over the weekend. (We're saving a ton of points to bank for our big 2012 Grand Gathering in a GV!) We'd either have to postpone by an entire week so we can get the same amount of days, or shorten the trip by a few days (or pay out of pocket for some nights.) I really wanted to be there for our anniversary and NOT the week leading up to July 4th.

I guess I just wanted to vent....

Anyone else in a similar situation?

I'm so sorry to hear you're in this situation. That totally stinks. I'm in Chicago and right now we're getting 'The Blizzard of 2011" so our snow days are adding up as I type as well. I'm so sorry it may impact your Disney trip. We'll just think warm, happy, thawing thoughts and wish for Spring!

Also in IL so our rules might different, but I thought after the 5 were used, that you might not have to make them up once you get to 180 days. We have like 183 or 185 attendance days or something in our district plus 5 snow days. Don't know if that makes sense.

Another thought may be to change some other extraneous days off--like after an extended strike, they shorten Christmas break and spring break to get caught up sooner.

He could also travel later.....

Really sorry that things are stressful! Hopefully, this will be the last one for you guys and the trip goes on without a hitch.

This winter has been a bear for so many people and I keep reading about trips in June that are in jeopardy.

Here is some pixiedust: that it will all work out for you.

Here in PA, I think it really varies by school district. And it truly depends on the amount of snow days. During my senior year of high school (1994), we had 15 snow days. I graduated on June 30th. Not only did they tack on extra days, but also made us come to school earlier every day. It was a nightmare. I guess in the back of my mind, I'm thinking that something like that could happen this year.

Aaaaaaaaaaaand.... the phone call just came - his school district is closed tomorrow. UGH!

Any chance you could extend your stay on cash. Maybe even swtching over to a Mod or even a Value? Just throwing out suggestions!;)

We too live in Pa and DD is a teacher. She has 4 days added on to her school year and has lost two days one for Pres. Day and one for Easter vacation. We plan on leaving June 17. Her original day out was June 1, so now I think we are up to June 7. She got her call before. We are now getting ice all nite into tomorrow. I hope this winter ends soon.

DH and I are suppose to be leaving on Saturday for a two week trip to Florida. I hope we don't get snowed in, since we are suppose to get more snow on Saturday. :headache: I can hear the sleet hitting the windows as I type.

similar situation, same dates and same resort.
we are supposed to be taking DS and three of his best friends for their graduation trip, as well as our dd and her bff.
then upon our return, we are packing up and moving to tx. DH is in the army.

So, i am trying to plan DS's graduation party, with family and friends coming in from all over the country with no set graduation date.
Then depart taking all these kids on their dream graduation trip.
Then return home to pack up and move several states away.

We are at nine bad weather days and they have already extended the school year. Winter is, half over?

If your school district still has Winter and Spring break you may still be able to take your vacation. Here in Connecticut some school districts have cancelled the Winter break and if this storm trend continues may cancel Spring break as well.
They are excusing students whose families have made plans on those weeks but will be given homework.
Good luck..

so alas today makes another snow day here in new york...and I am a teacher....this additional snow day means we are losing are Memorial Day Break...which was my vacation weekend....we were supposed to have the Friday before Memorial Day off and I was going to sneak and take the Thursday off...but now I can't take both days off...we had a lot of things planned for Memorial Day....urght...so I guess I will have to call MS in a few hours to reschedule again...:confused3

I'm so sorry for everyone who may have to change their reservations. Here in NYC we get no break. Bloomberg doesn't give out snow days---only 1 this year. I think since the late 80s we have only used 7 snow days.

Well Punxatawney Phil and Staten Island Chuck didn't see their shadows. So it supposed to be an early spring. Matt Lauer wrote on the today show "BULL".:rotfl2::lmao: I have to agree with that one.

Okay 2 more suggestion.
THEIR are a ton of rental points on rental boards, what about moving over to the weekend with more points. But rent 1 day from someone else. It would cost slightly more, you would use slightly less points, and would cost much less than paying cash for 1 night?

Or option 2.. Go and fly DH 1 or 2 days later? You go on orignal dates, if kids miss last day or 2 of school no big deal. My DH gets was less vacation than I do, so I often go without him for the 1st few days, or sometimes whole trips.

Sadly, DH and I were planning on driving, and making this one of our "Cheap" trips - stay on points, use our AP's; we we were only going to be paying for gas and food - no flights involved.

And since DH is a teacher, he can't cut out early at the end of the school year. Ugh.

Our district calls them "emergency days" on the calendar. It is nice to have the cutoff at 5 though. I hope we don't get to 5 b/c I have a trip planned with departure on the 5th emergency day. I figured we've never had more than 3 so I was safe. I guess if it comes to that I can try to change my flight to later in the day and figure out how to catch up with the rest of the family at VB - that will definitely be more difficult than catching up with them at WDW. But we're only on day 1, so I'm OK so far.

We are long past this part with our kids grown. We have a teacher who lives across the street from us. She says they have extra days built in but in the event people need to take a day or so at the end of the school year they try and accommodate knowing the money and times involved. She also stated your kid can always have a cold or the flu the last day or so if needed. She also said they pretty much have all the stuff(test and the like) done before the last couple of days anyway and there is not much going on except to satisfy the state mandate. Don't know if this how most school systems are but that is what she was telling us for our school system....smjj
