Ugh, Airfare Prices

This thread is over a year old and guess what - prices are getting worse!

Got some vacation time in July and thought I'd like to go back to WDW.

Got a hotel room, great price! Tried to book airfare and can't fly down for less than $165 and flying back, nothing for less than $300!

For 2 people that's over $1,000 just for the airfare. So, looking at maybe next year. Bummed, but I guess it's the high gas prices. Blech.

Gas prices are keeping us close to home this summer too.

Yeah, I'm spending about twice what I normally do to get to Orlando in Aug/Sept. I also have half as many airlines to choose from - two of the four that used to run the route no longer have non-stops and I'm not willing to do travel time of 10+ hours on what is less than 2.5 hours flying direct. Even if/when fuel prices go down, that trend is going to keep prices high just from lack of options and lack of competition.

I don't fly. It's too expensive. We went to Disney in 2010 and it would have been if I remember $350 per person. Coworkers were telling me we were stupid for driving down. Ah, the air fare would have nearly been as much as the vacation itself. Chose the $150 in gas instead. Plus flight would have had us coming in at 8 pm. My kids were standing in front of the Castle by noon.

I had a work trip I needed to go on 20 years ago. I'd never flown before. Friday I realized my credit card wasn't activated and I could only do that at home. $371 air fare. On Monday after activating my card at home on the weekend, I pulled up the flights. $1400. Meh, it wasn't my money, they should have booked and paid for the flight rather than me needing to go get a credit card I didn't want...

For me money is hard to spend.. I want to save as much as I can... after driving a few times I treated myself to flying it was the best thing I ever did. It was nice not having to shorten the trip by two days on each side.
I will say I still took a budget airline and traveled with a backpack each. (We mailed everything we bought home)
Heck on this trip I was over spending on everything else .
