I have a few pairs of uggs and knowing that my foot size isn't going to change justifies the price for me. I used to buy DD uggs when she was little, but, haven't in a long while. I would like to buy her the tall classic in black that never go on sale. Is it worth getting her the uggs because of the quality knowing she will probably wear them for a few seasons? Is there that much difference between uggs and other brands? Which brands are actually comparable?

In all honesty I don't think Ugg brand is better quality than other brands. The key is to make sure the ones you buy are real shearling. The whole Ugg brand thing is a marketing thing. "Ugg" boots are just sheep skin boots. One company trademarked the name "Ugg" in the US so we have this idea that Ugg brand is real and the others are fake. They aren't ( as long as they are real shearling and not faux).

There's lots of brands out there. Bearpaw, Emu (although sometimes they are merino lined and not shearling) Green Lizard, Koolaburra, Sam's club has some under their brand.

I have a pair of Ukala boots. I think I paid 29.99 on 6pm.com last year. I sprayed them with Scotchguard and wore them every day of our Upstate NY winter last year. They have no salt stains and look as good as when I bought them.

My dd has Uggs, Emus and had Bearpaws. The Bearpaws were junk, they fell apart before she got one season out of them.
I like her EMUs the best, I think the interior of them is fluffier and last longer than the Uggs.
My Uggs are 4 years old and are in good shape. They look pretty beat because I wear them in bad weather to walk the dog, but they have help up.

I had the costco brand in camel color and the SAMs brand in black b/c I am not one to spend $$$ on shoes just b/c of the fad. They are fine and I still wear the black ones. Then, my parents gave me real uggs for Christmas last year.. Holy cow...there sure is a difference. They are much thicker in the part that goes up your leg. They hold their shape better and really just feel good to have on. So yes, they are worth the extra if you have the extra to spend, but if not, just stick with some knock offs for $40.

I have tall Bear Paws & I love them! I've never tried on Uggs so I can't compare. My Bear Paws are prob 3 years old. Sooo comfy & they still look brand new.

I have a pair of EMU Platinum Stinger-Hi boots that I love! Heels.com had a Black Friday sale last year where the price for the Platinum (made in Australia) was cheaper than the sale price for the regular (made in China) boots. The most important thing to look for is real shearling, rather than merino wool.

I got my daughter a pair of BearPaws for Christmas at amazon for around $40. I KNOW she's going to love them!!! Her older sister wore hers for a good 3 years.
