My DD just asked for a pair this year. She is in 9th grade. It is a lot of money for boots that I think are rather ugly! I will admit they look comfy and warm.
I just don't want to spent a ton and then find them sitting in her closet.

You mean UGG-ly? :lmao:

I'll admit I like them a little but only for their intended purpose...as snowboots. I don't really understand people who wear them with miniskirts in the summer though. Hm.

There are some really nice UGG alternatives that look similar but cost a lot less. Bearpaws are great quality. There is also a brand called Emu that i've heard good things about.

I like uggs. They're good for winter, keep me warm, and look pretty cute with jeans. In Winter.

But, uggs are ridiculously overpriced. Emus are a good alternative, especially on Amazon, because they're A) cheaper B) same quality, if not better C) look the same, nobody notices that they're not uggs D) still Australian

ETA: I'm a 10th grader

I love Uggs and IMO, they're definitely worth the price. I just love how warm they are without being insane-warm. And they're really comfortable.

Are the still "in?" Maybe, I think they are. It doesn't really matter to me, I want them therefore, I get them. I also don't think they're ugly, I just don't think they're pretty as well. When I think about it, are most sneakers pretty? or flip flops? or jeans?...

I say get 'em! Or at least maybe just wait a few weeks and make sure your DD really does want them.

I have no idea if they're still "in style" or not, but I'm a senior in HS and plan on wearing my pair from last winter anyway :rotfl:.

My mom teaches high school and says they're still pretty popular with that crowd!

I have a pair of fake Uggs (Fuggs as I like to call them) from Target and I love them! I wore them all the time last winter and they are very warm. I would love to get a pair of real ones, but I'm a total cheapskate. I don't know, maybe I'll cave and treat myself!

:confused3 Are they Suede? I can't imagine them being very useful in snow, ice, or well anything wet? Anyone know? Aside from being ugly, I cant imagine them being practical? I am a New Englander and as such, I prefer waterproof, lol! Oh and any "winter" item that trends from LA prob wont transfer well to a NE winter. Our winters are a tad more snowy. I havent actually tried them, no desire to really.

LL Bean makes some good solid winter boots.

They're sheepskin. They're from Australia.

The outside is suede or knit. The inside sheepskin. They are extremely warm and comfortable, but not good in wet deep snow. We make sure we put water repellent on the which does help somewhat.

My girls have the classic short boots, slippers(which they wear as shoes), and this year are getting the bailey style. They got the boots last fall, and wore them alot. They are still in great shape.

That is what I thought! Not good for where I live.

My dd is asking for them for Christmas this year. She has never cared for the brand name so she has had a pair of Bearpaws (which fell apart) and has a pair of EMU's which quality wise are as good as my UGGs. I hate to spend that much on shoes for her but its the first time she is specifically asking for the UGG brand and I know she will get alot of use out of them.

Airwalk has similar pairs as well. I found a few in Target. I like them.

ETA: Not sheepskin.

Take a look at Koolaburras. These are still made in Australia, and they are sheepskin, not suede and sheep wool fused together like some boots. I got a pair last winter, and they are awesome! They aren't cheap, but I like knowing that they are made in Oz and not in China and are true sheepskin boots.

I own a few pairs of Uggs and absolutely love them. They are extremely comfortable and warm--especially in Chicago winters. While I wouldn't use them as snow boots (sledding, ski trip, traipsing in the park), they are fine to walk in if it's snowing out or if there's a little snow on the ground, especially if they're protected with some type of water repellent.

If you're not set on having the brand name, I bought a generic pair from Costco IDENTICAL in look (except for the Ugg label on the back) and quality for 1/4 of the price. They're either $32.99 or $36.99 something like that and they are suede and sheepskin--same as Ugg.

DD is on her 2nd pair from Costco. She wore them all last winter, except on the really snowy/slushy days. these are great for the price, especially since her feet aren't done growing. $36.99 sounds right :) These are still really popular with middle school/high school girls here.

I'm a freshman and I'm in love with my Bearpaws. Where I live, it doesn't snow much, but it gets cold. They're super warm.

I have to agree not very practical for New England. I'm glad my DD doesn't like them. She thinks they are to much of a fad and ugly. I agree with her they are ugly. But the kids still wear them around here. More in Middle School than High School. Not sure why.
