Ugghhh, so disappointed about the weather!

We ended up going this afternoon after school. It was pretty bad until around 6 and by 7, we had dry skies. I hope everyone had fun at the party tonight!

So, DH and I are sitting in our hotel room after a WONDERFUL night at Disneyland!!! We watched the weather and when rain was predicted, we packed our umbrellas, rain gear and ponchos. :)

We entered the park about 4:30 when it was pouring rain. Other than wearing rain gear, the day was one of the best we've had at the park. It was near walk-on for all rides, we had no problem getting a cozy seat at the Plaza Inn for dinner, and the fireworks were delayed, not canceled. We were happy the rain let up for most of the night, but it was a blessing to happen. Crowds were super light and most everything was operating.

Tomorrow's another rainy day and we couldn't be happier! It's Disneyland and we're happy just to be here! :goodvibes

I do NOT suggest riding Calif Screamin in the rain. I spent the entire ride with my hands over my face as it felt like hail pelting me. Horrible.

I enjoy Disney in the rain. The party, not so much. I think I was mostly frustrated because it seemed sooooo disorganized and we got a different answer from every CM. No one knew where characters were moved too. We didn't see a single villan. Even the dance party at French Market wasn't open. You would think they would have a plan in place already for these types of situations!

Back from the party. I ended up taking a nap for an hour and a half because I was really upset about all the rain, while I was napping my mom managed to snag a dryer (they had been full all day long) and dried a pair of my jeans for me...they're soaked again lol but I'm warm in bed now after a long night of trick or treating. Oh and note to everyone...ride rides first and then trick or treat after the fireworks :) NO lines tonight at all and NO lines for candy after the fireworks :)

Does anyone know if WoC was/is canceled in rainy weather?

I'm so glad you went! I came back to check this thread in the hope that you managed to dry your jeans and head out to the party.

For those interested in rain information at DLR this thread gathers some data. Historically October has only 2 rainy days in the month (see Chart 4). In general you have good odds in October but a couple days it will rain and this week has been it. :sad1:

Today is supposed to be the last day of rain :) It's sunny at the moment with super dark clouds on the horizon, T-storms today but according to all weather sites I've checked today is the last day of rain!!!

Glad to hear you went to the party with dry jeans.:goodvibes Hope you had magical time.

So what's the 7 day forecast? Mainly next week.

I have to say I'm not a huge fan of DLR in the rain. Partially because I've been on all the rides multiple times, so lower crowds/short lines are not necessarily my number 1 priority. I mostly like soaking up the atmosphere, and I admit that's harder for me when I'm very cold and wet :)

But I also have to say -- it rained for the first half of my October 4-8 trip -- and I was a bit bummed out at first, but we changed the way we do DLR for a bit and ended up having a wonderful time. One morning it was pouring, so we ducked into the Blue Ribbon bakery, found a cozy table, and had a wonderful time drinking hot apple cider, eating a pumpkin muffin, and chatting with other visitors until the rain slowed down to a light drizzle. It was something that we probably wouldn't have done if it wasn't raining, and it was one of my more lovely Main Street experiences :)

FWIW: October is a tough month to predict in So. Cal. does get some rain every year, usually middle of the month, but can also be beautiful. Our wedding anniversary is 10/10. It has rained only once on our anniversary in So. Cal. in 12 years. There are usually a few days of rain in October each year. That said, this year the weather has been bizarre all around. Here's the number of days of rain in October from the last 10 years:
2000 8
2001 2
2002 2
2003 2
2004 7
2005 3
2006 1
2007 2
2008 2
2009 2
2010 11, so far... :confused3

OP here, my fiance and I ending up going to the party. I think he would have liked to skip it, but I already spent $88 on tickets, so I was determined to go!

I still had fun, I told him that we just had to make the best of it. He was just unhappy because his shoes and socks were soaked. Luckily, we had ponchos left over from a trip to WDW. He wanted to leave around 8:30, but I sweet talked him into staying.

I'm very happy the fireworks still went on. I'm not so into characters, but if I were, I would have been disappointed, it seemed to me that a lot of the characters were not out, or at least were difficult to find.

I saw some great costumes, a lot of Alices and Mad Hatters. The best was probably a dad who was pulling around his Peter Pan son in a pirate ship wagon and the baby sister was Tinkerbell.

I hope everyone was able to have fun last night.

And the first week of October it rained the whole time too...from that MOnday clear through to that Thursday....basically our whole trip,lol... we made the best of it though and still had fun. :)

ZSCFAN:I am so glad the fireworks went off for you. I changed my tickets to next Tuesday mostly because I was concerned the FW would be cancelled.

Did the cavalcade still go as well?

Yes, they still had both showing of the calvacade, we attended the 2nd one, as it was much less crowded than the first.

UGH! I had the worst trip the beginning of the month. Rain every day! Just a misty rain but so annoying! I don't care about the rides but love the atmosphere and the rain just ruined it for me.

I have never bought MHP tickets in advance after waiting one year to see if it was going to rain (which it did) which canceled all the fun stuff (this was at WDW, so fireworks and parade canceled). We now buy them the day of and so worth not stressing!

I'm with you, ride lines don't matter so much to me, so the rain is more of a downer than anything else :sad2:

Interesting idea on waiting to buy the party tickets. I have attended the party at DLR (was at DCA the last 3 years I attended) and we were blessed with perfect weather every year. I bought my tickets to the 10/5 party in advance without even worrying ... This is the first year that I've seen so much rain in October. But yeah, it happens :confused3

Well, we went to the party the 19th also. I was so disappointed in the weather, as I had saved up to make it a special birthday trip for my son's new stepson. I was excited about my grandma trip but the weather sure wasn't what I'd hoped for. Still, we had a wonderful time and I loved the party! The trick-or-treat stations were fabulous compared to last year--tons of great candy. We walked on most rides and had a ball. It was a bummer that everyone had on ponchos, though, because it was hard to see all of the costumes. I was glad I chose to be Harry Potter because my robe and wig kept me pretty dry. We were told the fireworks would most likely be cancelled so we didn't try to get a spot, and then they started up as we were exiting the Matterhorn. We tried to get over to the castle area to see the special effects but went down a number of dead ends/can't-get-through-this-way-right-now spots and by the time we made it out, we'd missed it all, darn it! We missed the parade, too, but we weren't too worried about that.

We did have a good meal at BB. I had asked if they would be open for dinner and was told that they started dinner at 4 PM but would be closing at 5. That worked fine for us, but when we got there for our reservation it turned out that they didn't have dinner that night, just lunch all day. We got a waterside table, though, and a good meal, but not the meal I'd been wanting which is only on the dinner menu. Still, it was a good way to start our trick-or-treat party (we went in right at 3 after flying down from N CA) and escape the rain while we were waiting for the treat stations to set up.

The next day was still cloudy and cool but we had a wonderful trip in spite of it all. I think I must be bad luck for DL, though, because it rains EVERY time I go, even in drought years :rotfl:
