UGGGHHH Hotel hell vent!

I agree that Dulles is too far out (and "Dulles" encompases a huge area) BUT, if you have a car and can drive to a metro station, I wouldnt totally rule out the reston/herndon area. The reaosn I say this is because Vienna Metro station is very accesible from these areas and hotels there can be much less expensive.

The Residence Inn Fairlakes is about 6 miles from Vienna Metro station. 2 bedroom suites are about $130/night. so $65/night for each of you. There are also a lot of restaurants near this hotel so if you are back at the hotel for dinner any night, you wont be searching for places.

The Springhill Suites in Fairfax could also be an option. Its about 4-5 miles from the Metro station.

Personally, we lived near Dulles airport for almost 17 years. We lived near the fairfax county/loudon county border. We never found it to be a huge hassle to use the Vienna Metro station. If cost is really an issue adn you want them to go with you, I would not rule out staying near Vienna metro.

The only hard part about the Vienna Metro station is that the parking lot gets so full so fast since it serves so much of the western part of the area.

Keep in mind Metro has just raised their fees. We don't take it. We drive downtown and if it's a holiday weekday, we'll park in a free spot (parking meters are free on holidays and Sundays). If it's a Saturday we will park at the Reagan Building for $10. It's right near the mall and very safe.

:flower3:Thank you everyone for your input. We are leaving Friday and I was able to keep it at $250 for each family, so not too bad. We are going to stay at the Hampton Inn Alexandria and then one night at Springhill Suites in Chantilly. Looking forward to a fun weekend with my boy! Can't wait! And thank you again for your advice...I am going to keep it mind for a trip back with DS and hubby.

I used Priceline for a Wash DC stay and the place was gorgeous. More of a business hotel, I guess, but you did not even have to go outside to use the Metro stop. I should look up the name, but it does not matter I guess, because I got it thru Priceline, not directly.

We stayed at Arlington Suites over 4th of July. It was about 3 blocks from the Metro, easy to walk to. It was a nice clean hotel with a decent continental breakfast. I want to say we paid around $100 a night, but can't remember. I know it was reasonable!!
