Uggggg..Routine Dentist visit, what is your cost?

I had an appointment at the dentist yesterday so waited until I came back from it to post.
The cost for the cleaning and exam was $111. Last spring it was $162 with bitewing xrays. I'm in NC. Our insurance (Delta Dental) covers 100%.

thankfully we have insurance, but if not, for the 4 of us this month ALMOST $900 just in preventative of no insurance? So almost $1800 a year?Again, just preventative routine check-up...no work done, no sealants, nothing other than the cleaning and bitewings.
I am in the western 'burbs of Chicago, if you guys could post your rates and location, I am just curious if I am in the norm, or should be looking around for another DDS

Why would you be looking for another Dentist when you have insurance and your checkups are covered? I'm not sure how much our visits are, but our dental insurance covers bi-yearly checkups 100% if we go to a dentist in our group.

I just took my two youngest. It Usually costs me around $150 for the two of them if they get xrays. But I have been requesting that they NOT xray the last few visits because they don't need it!! Nor do I want to pay for it. So my bill is ends up being around $70-80. My kids are seeing an ortho too. If they had a problem he'd tell me. And DON'T even get me started on how much the orthodontia costs!

Xrays are the only way your dentist can see decay in between the teeth. Child decay happens a lot even with fluoride, etc. Without diagnosic xrays small problems can become large problems.

ours is not 100% covered for well/preventative visits. I also inquired on the cost for fillings (dd has a "pit"...:rolleyes 2nd one in 22 years) anyways....$195 for a filling before insurance~if there are multiple fillings, no price break-$195 each one even if al done in the same office visit.

The newest reports are that kids should not be getting xrays more than every 2 years - because of radiation and the risk of brain tumors. We have now requested every 2 years - not every year.

$140 for a checkup & cleaning (no xrays) in NE Wisconsin. My husband's insurance pays a total of $400 for the year for our entire family. NOT enough.

I was just wondering this today. For my two kids who went this afternoon, exam, cleaning, and fluoride treatment (no x-rays) was $260.
