I'm feeling like a total idiot.I can't decide between staying in a studio or 1 bedroom for our April trip and I'm either totally obsessing over it or refuse to think about it. What is my problem?:rolleyes1 It's me , DH, DD 11 and DS 10. I finally decided we are definately going with the DDP. I've stayed in studios and 2 bedrooms, DH has only stayed in a studio ( just him and I, no kids ).He's no help with this decision, he thinks we'll be perfectly comfortable in the studio, but is leaving it up to me.Complicating matters is the span of this trip. We arrive on a Sat night, staying at POP,then DVC for 5 nights, then POFQ for the weekend, then 2 more nights DVC. I know the standard advice is to split the stay ,but leave the 1 bedroom till the end, but that would only leave 1 1/2 days of the 9 in the 1 bedroom. ( see i told ya:sad2: ) we go to WDW at least 2 times per year so being thrifty with points is a consideration. Anyone have any advice?? TIA

Are you talking this April? IF so the decision may be easier then you think. Call and see what they have left for your dates!

That is way to much moving for us. We moved one time during our stay and a couple of weeks ago and I thought that was to much. You are kind of wasting alot of time moving IMHO. But its not up to me. I would go for the studio and not move at all.

Ex:OKW
15th-24th (9 nights) studio 131 points

15th-19th 22nd-24th (7 nights) 1-br 154 points

For my family, the decision would be easy.

We have a DD12 & DS8...we are staying in a studio at SSR for 8 days in May.
By doing this, we will have enough points to go back for 5 nights in August & then AGAIN for a week at Christmas.

Only by staying in a studio do we have enough points to go 3 times in one year.

I understand your delema. I'm trying to decide whether to stay in a 1 bedroom the last part of our trip or just stick to a studio and save the points. Being a family of three, we will probably just do the studio.
You know the lesser pts. means more time at WDW!:dance3:
I know what my husband would say if we were doing that much moving..."forget it! We are just staying in a studio the whole time!"
I have to admit, that is even too much moving for me! We usually will move once during our stay, so we can try a different resort.
Do you really want to move that many times?:confused3

Thanks everyone. I already have reservations for a studio,so we will have SOMEPLACE to stay.Explanantion for all the moving: First night is Sat and we are arriving at 2 am so POP is a given. Then we are moving for the weekend, which I believe most DVC rs do.Then we added 2 days on to the week,so it became very complicated. DH is noooo help.:scared:

Good luck! that would be too much packing and moving for me...not very relaxing and takes away from my pool and park time. I agree with the Pop the first night as we do this for almost all trips, but 4 resorts in 9 days, wow. I would suggest that you stay in a studio and use the extra points you allowed for a 1 bedroom to stay through the weekend, or use points one night and cash the other night. Sounds complicated--I guess I'm not considered most DVCers, because I never move once I check into a DVC resort.

Since you asked for opinions, I'd book the 1BR for as much of the stay as your points allow. But that's because our main goal with DVC was to improve our vacationing experience rather than prolonging it. It's a give and take, but we prefer at least a 1BR and usually a 2BR for the four of us.

Then we are moving for the weekend, which I believe most DVC rs do.
I did a poll on this a while back. Here's the link to it: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=13542160#post13542160

Actually, most of the DVCers on this board tend to not let the weekend point schedule dictate their vacations. To paraphrase the results, I'd say that most are mindful of the weekend points but don't do a lot of moving. About 1/8th of us move out on weekends to save points.

Guess I am one of the 1/8 at times. Christmas week we moved out of a 2 BR for the weekend to a hotel out on 192 for a total cost of $122 and by saving the points will be taking a 7 day trip in September and a few days in the spring. In September of 2006 we stayed the whole 10 night trip in a 2 BR at OKW rather than change. The number of points required for different seasons is the determing factor in most cases for us as my DH hates to move during the trip.

We have only stayed in studios so far, but are looking forward to a 5-night in a 1-BR in March. We have two DS's ages 9 and 10. FWIW, we prefer OKW because of the 2-queens in the studio vs the 1 queen / dbl-pull-out couch in the other studios, especially if it's more than 2-nights. So one thing to consider is what your sleeping arrangements are for you and your family. That dbl-pull-out can get awfully small after a night or two.

If you have the points, go for the 1-BR, esp since you'll be there for an extended stay. Convenience of the washer / dryer would sell it for me -- being able to do laundry either early morning or late at night without having to leave my room - well, that's a plus (plus less packing for me).

We just got back from a 3-night at OKW and used the kitchenette more than we've ever done. Saved a ton of $$ and enjoyed having breakfast on our "baledge" (hee hee - the balconies are definitely smaller for the studios at OKW than we've experienced at SSR - so much smaller that we LOL about having a ledge instead of a balcony).

Good luck with your decision, and as someone else pointed out, definitely call and see if anything beyond the studio is even available for when you want to go. Let us know what you end up with. I enjoy reading about how other DVCers schedule because it helps me with our planning.

Ahhhh! I see!
I stll wouldn't get my husband to move that many times, even if I wanted to!:rotfl: We will just use the weekend pts. or pay cash, just so we don't have to move. The first thing he does when we get there is put his clothes away in the drawers. Of course, he doesn't even do that at home!:rotfl2:
Have a great trip!:dance3:

I'm with you on this. We never move out to save points. We unpack and stay put until we leave.

Okay, here's my 2 cents...
For the past few years when we go (which is only once a year) we always split the stay-but only move one time and even doing THAT is stressful! I could never deal w/moving 4 times during vacation! -NO WAY! But to each his or her own, plus my kids are much younger than yours so I'm sure it's easier w/older ones.
If you feel you have to move that much to save pts or whatever, I would definetly go for the studio simply because I personally would be miserable if I had to move from a nice spacious 1 bedroom into a moderate resort w/2 double beds-it would make me crazy:crazy2: . We stayed in a one bedroom in November and now we decided there's no going back to the studios-the 1 bedrooms are soooooo much nicer.
So anyway, that's my logic on the subject-I'm not trying to stress you out any more than you already are, but I just wanted to give MHO!
