UG and first week of Jan.--kids still out of school?

Hi!

I'm thinking of going to WDW Jan 3-10, but I'm concerned because I see that a lot of schools aren't going back until Jan 9. UG still has the week at 5s (I don't think there's anytime under 4s anymore ) So my question is are there really not that many schools out til the 9th?

All the public schools around here (wisconsin) start back up on Jan 4th. I have never heard of a school not opening until the 9th...that seems like a REALLY long christmas break for a school to have. I hope I'm right because I've already booked a trip during the same time as you.

Well, I did a bunch of searches. Some people said schools in Canada don't go back til then. Someone said her children in Indiana don't go back til then. And someone mentioned schools in the south. So I'm hoping it's just a few here and there.

The kids around here go back the 3rd.

I read on another post that a lot of FL school's are out til 1/9 this year. I think someone posted that they don't get out as early in December this year.

Quite a few colleges are not going back until the 9th and in college towns the publics generally do not go back until then either. We're in the process of moving to Flagstaff and their schools do not start till the 9th (and the college doesn't start till the 17th!)

Well for me it's go then and risk more crowds with them not going back til later, or go the next week and risk the Builder's convention. Ack!

There's never a perfect week to go.

In Canada we are out from Dec 23 till Jan 9th.
We will be there during the holidays and are expecting it to be crazy from the 3rd thru the 9th, also partly because of the Disney marathon at the same time!!!

Our school in GA does not go back until Jan 10. We will be at Disney the first week of Jan and I am a little worried about crowds. I just keep telling myself it is still better than summer and it cant be as hot. (I hope)

Our school here in SC starts back January 10. Yes it's a long Christmas break, but keep in mind our school began August 9! I still wouldn't worry about the parks being crowded the first week of January though.

In our school district it all depends on what day christmas falls. Schools are in session until the last Friday before Christmas and then out for 2 weeks. Thats why this year we don't go back until Jan 9 (and why we will be in Disney the first week of January). I can't remember us ever going back that late before.
Hopefully it won't be TOO busy but we have allocated 7 parks days (to do 3 parks) so I'm sure we will get to see a lot.

Our schools go back Jan 3rd I think. DH teaches college and he doesn't go back until Jan 13, so we are going Jan 4 to 11th. If schools were still out we would take DN with us.

We went Jan 1st to 7th 2004, the crowds were not bad, but not great. They got better every day after the 1st.

The schools in our district are out from 12/23 - 1/9.

We went to WDW the first week of January this year and it was empty. Most schools seem to be back in session the week before so I wouldn't worry about it being too crowded. The only thing you'll have to worry about is the weather. Last year, it was in the 80's the whole week we were there, but it was cold and rainy the week before and the week after our trip.

Our public schools go back Jan 3...my college daughter doesn't go back til the 18th.

We will be there the first week and I am not worried.

In Oklahoma our schools go back Jan 4. I'm pulling my son out of school for our Jan 5-10 trip.

Our board in Ontario the kids go to School until Dec. 23 then start back again Jan. 9

I can look at the historical data, but I don't think Indiana or California are going to be particularly big influences on WDW crowds during that time of year. And I suspect that most parents are going to take their vacation time in December, not January. (Just a hunch - few people will blow one of their weeks of vacation that early in the year.) So even if the kids are off, no one will be available to take them to the parks. Again, just a hunch.

There you are Len! Thanks for responding! I think this is a big break for historical data on the time period. I've never heard of any school not going back right after New Years. I was just curious if you had heard about it. I doubt that Canada would be a huge influence either.

We're in Spanish Fort AL and our kids are out until the 9th. After reading this thread, I'm a bit more concerned about the crowds than I was---not that it will change anything...we're still going regardless.

usually it's pretty dead in jan, marathon or not( marathon only impacted us for that 1 morning other than that you wouldn't have even noticed)

disneyphd..we got there the 9th of the same yr and you just missed it..it was dead till mlk weekend( when we left sunday) but it got frigid cold on the 10 and 11( we had on our ohio winter coats, first time we ever needed them in wdw) then back to nice weather

We will be at WDW 2nd-8th. Doing the Marathon and with the school break is was perfect for a longer trip. We anticipate crowds - marathon race size has doubled since they split in two days.

Schools around here are semester system, and they want the high school semester exams done before the holiday so we get out as late as possible in December each year. Most of the folks around here always travel that second week of the winter holiday...whether it be WDW, skiing, caribbean waters or to family.
