I am staying at the Grand Floridian a night before our cruise. Has anyone taken Uber to get to Port Canaveral?if so, how much did it cost? We usually take private transport.

Did anyone ever take Uber from the ship back to WDW?

How many people, and how much luggage? You'll probably need an XL, so I would guess at least $100.

I was told by one Uber driver that they don't like to take those calls because chances of getting a fare back to Orlando are slim. Mind, I was told by another that he would probably do it. Just a thought in case it is hard to get a driver to do it. You don't want to be stuck waiting at the last moment in hopes someone will take the call. I would arrange something else that I could be sure of. YMMV.

Uber drivers don't know anything about the ride request other than someone nearby has requested an Uber. The driver only receives the pick-up address after they accept the request and don't receive the destination information until they get to the pick-up location. Uber did that so that drivers cannot pick and choose rides.

What happens if the driver does not show up or declines the trip if they did not know it was to PC ?

Weird that you say it's a rule they don't know. The couple of times I used Uber, they confirmed my name and destination as I was getting in the car.

That's not what ridesharerob (or something like that) says in the big Uber thread on the transportation forum.

But it is the truth, they also aren't allowed to refuse a ride because of distance. Nor are they allowed to refuse a ride to those with Service animals. At least according to the official rules, but quite often drivers break these and other rules.

You also don't even have to enter your destination into the app when asking for a ride.

I thought this was really interesting. They're currently running ads where I live for people to become new Uber drivers. And the ad says something like "got a spare hour - pick up a ride or two - work when you want". But if I was picking someone up at the grand Floridian, and needed to take them to Port Canaveral, that would be way more than having a spare hour.

I've used FL Tours many times over the years. They are wonderful. The only drawback is they will not drop someone off before 11 AM. They have too many PU's from ships in the AM.

Once they are there I don't think they can refuse. But they can certainly refuse when a request goes out. I've been in a car on a Lyft ride with a driver who drives for both and he refused a shared Uber request that came through. That's why the app will say "locating a driver" - it contacts multiple ones.

And as for asking the destination, yes they do. (Or they did before I deleted my Uber account because Lyft is so much better in all ways). That's how they give you a price estimate.

I love it when I can start a big debate, makes my day worth while........kidding.
I'm only repeating what I was told by drivers. How they get around whatever rules there may be, I don't know, however apparently they do. Back to the original question, I would not take the chance with Uber and would try and arrange some other transportation mode just in case but that's just me.

Last week we (my husband and I) took an Uber from Animal Kingdom to Disney Springs. While on the ride we were chatting with the driver and told her we were doing a cruise, she asked about our transport and said that she often does runs to Port Canaveral and it would only cost $35 (or maybe it was $37) to get there. I thought about it but I was a little concerned about getting one on the way back. However perhaps PC Uber drivers pick up for airport runs and then usually when a cruise disembarks it will be leaving that same day so they could bring back more people to PC. Anyway, She said she doesn't mind the PC trips even if she doesn't get a fare back as she is retired and if she doesn't get a fare she goes to the beach! But she was ready to arrange a transportation date with us for the cruise. Just thought I'd share what she told us.

You don't have to get a price estimate though, what I usually do is get an estimate through Google maps and then open the Uber app, then I know they don't know where I am going. I also prefer to use Lyft, but there are areas where Uber is available and Lyft is not. Overall, I don't use either a lot.

And really the best bet is if you get a good driver from either in a particular area is to ask if you might be able to use them again outside the Lyft or Uber app and get a direct phone number for them. Most are more than willing to do so and make the price slightly less that what Lyft or Uber would charge you since they get the money directly that way and avoid paying the commission. The especially holds true if you frequent a certain area that you use these services on a regular basis.

While you can certainly do it, you'll want to remember you'll be subject to whatever the fare and schedule is on that day (getting on and off the ship). It may mean extended waits once off the ship (or higher prices, or both) and without some sort of backup reservation your options will be limited. For a trip of this length I don't suggest it. Yes, you can always get their card and phone number to schedule something for after the cruise but there is virtually no guarantee they will even answer your call when you get off of the boat.

DCL is pretty rock solid but expensive. For less than $200 (round trip) you can rent full size cars to take you from GF and wherever you want to go once off the ship.
