Can you answer some simple Uber questions for me? I have never used it.

Do you tip on the set amount or is there no tipping?

What is Uber X and Uber XY or whatever it is, the different services?

Do you need cash or do you pay online prior, or what?

Supposedly no tipping, but they won't turn it down. XL is a larger vehicle and costs more. You register a credit card and it's charged to that.

It's a cashless system. You have to have a card registered on the app. It's all very easy.

As for tipping - I have never tipped, nor do I know anyone who has ever tipped (and I live in LA, we use Uber here all the time).

I have never used Uber, but it is very popular here in Northern California. Both users and drivers I know say tips are not expected, but almost everyone does tip a few dollars.

I use both Uber and Lyft. Lyft is easier with tipping which I think why a lot of uber drivers have switched. I usually gave tips with Uber in cash.

I've tried lyft and uber and prefer uber. Lyft around here uses wave or something like that for a gps which isn't very accurate in my area. I only use lyft when we get a free ride from tmobile on Tuesdays up to $15 so it doesn't matter but otherwise it would cost more than needed. I like how unlike a cab we can call either company and track arrival time so you know when to go outside. If you ever have a teen riding and you call uber on your phone you can track uber the entire ride but lyft doesn't have that here. I think uber uses google maps and goes the way I would direct them.

I tipped the driver in cash the last time I used uber. In Boston, you can't take uber from the airport, so I was forced to take a cab. On my return, the uber car was much nicer--clean, nice-smelling, and the driver had put the front passenger seat all the way forward to allow more room in the back. Being forced to take the smelly cab really drove home what a better deal uber is!

I wonder how much of the fare the driver gets? i.e. how much of a cut does Uber corporate take? I haven't used it yet but told my daughter she should tip a $1 or so because of the rating thing. You don't want to be stranded somewhere because you don't have good Uber ratings and no one will pick you up!

I tip with Uber. If you safely brought me to my destination I have no problem giving you a tip. Esp if you helped with my bags.

One of the reasons Uber appeals to me is that it's supposed to be cashless (or so I thought). I get in, I get out. No messing with cash or mentally calculating tips. That's what I like about it.

That was the WHOLE POINT of the app. A cashless system. As a 20something in LA with many 20something friends, I've never seen one of them tip. Only on the Disboards, where people tip Uber, 25% at restaurants, and leave $10 for hotel maids every day.

By the way, I have a 5 star rating.

Well seeing as how not nearly everyone on the dis claims to tip 25% in restaurants or $10 a night to the maid, you too are.... exaggerating.
