Not sure where to post this...

But can you still use regular Uber on site or do you have to use Minnie vans? Is there any difference in price and speed, etc?

Thank you

Uber is still available and would be less expensive than the Minnie Van. The Minnie Van works best with groups of 5 or more and with kids that need car seats.

@Lynne M will probably move it to the Transportation board.

But to answer your question, yes, regular Uber (and Lyft) vehicles are abundant all over property.

Minnie Van has a set $20 price no matter the destination. Regular Uber/Lyft will usually be (much) less than this. Minnie Van pricing is more comparable to Uber XL or Uber with a car seat.

Minnie Van availability is usually OK, but there are times when there aren’t enough to service demand. Uber/Lyft availability can often be more favorable. But obviously that’s highly variable so YMMV.

Hope that helps!

I thought the Minnie Vans were limited to Deluxe resort guests only, so I'd hope that regular Lyft (I will not use Uber for a variety of reasons - yes, I know many drivers drive for both, but I have serious qualms with Uber and would rather give my money to Lyft) was available. (Plus since I'm *GASP* not the biggest fan of Minnie, the thought of riding around in something designed to resemble her kinda turns me off. LOL.)

There have been several trips even in the base service level with Uber/Lyft that have ran us closer to $20 than you think, once I add in a tip. I'll admit though I may tip more than avg but we've had more than one ride come to $15 with tip so I wouldn't even call base service "must" less expensive.

And Minnie Vans aren't always going to be for use by those staying at Deluxe resorts only. Eventually guests at all resorts will have access. Now, once you've had the service activated, you can use it no matter where you stay, you aren't limited to use it when you stay at a Deluxe.

No matter what though, Uber and Lyft will be available on property. Minnie Vans don't pick up or drop off outside Disney properties and seeing how Disney has guests not on property that need rides for whatever reasons, they'll never eliminate a way for people to get rides, say when they've had one too many to drink for instance.

Sorry to hijack this post-- we'll be using Uber/Lyft a few times and we have a 3 yr old. Do they both offer car seats if requested? Extra charge?

You can order an Uber with a car seat (just one).

Lyft does not have a car seat option.

Minnie Van drivers are trained to install car seats. Uber drivers are not - and you may have to install it yourself (which I would actually prefer over having a random person do it that hasn't been trained). PLEASE check to make sure they Uber car seat is not expired and is installed correctly. We used a taxi once years ago and it took multiple tries to get a car with an appropriate car seat. Hopefully Uber is more reliable, but I have too many kids in car seats now to have tried it.

Yeah, I agree with this. I used Uber with a car seat once and won’t do that again - it was too far past my personal comfort zone.

My experience with a Minnie Van was so much better, both in terms of the quality of the seat and installation. Although on one Minnie Van trip back in October I had to tighten up the car seat in the Minnie Van myself because I wasn’t happy with the installation - it was just really loose and at an angle not appropriate for my child. Contrast that with a Minnie Van trip that morning where it was installed perfectly. The CM took the time to really size up my DD and make sure she was installing it appropriate to her size.

Have used Minnie vans just once but that matches our experience. Driver took the time and really did it right. Better than any taxi driver we’ve had.
