We are considering using Uber or Lyft to get from LAX to our hotel on Harbor Blvd. this Saturday. Which service would be better ("better" being a combo of cheaper and faster)? We have never used either service, so I would also appreciate any general advice or things we should know.

Details that may be helpful: There will be two adults and two kids. No strollers or car seats. Several suitcases (probably 2 large suitcases and a few carry-ons). Our flight lands at 3:45pm on Saturday.

They are both basically the same but dependent on availability. Many drivers drive for both companies. Price both when you're ready to depart and see which has the cheaper price at the time you need it.

You might see a slight price surge on Saturday. I did a quick price check right now (7:10pm on Thursday) and its roughly $105-$120 and a 55 minute drive. But since you said you're gonna have several bags, it might be higher. Have you considered a shuttle instead?

Oh, wow. I didn't realize it would be that much. I can't say I'm the biggest fan of shuttles (dislike making several other stops to pick up/drop off others), but maybe I'll have Super Shuttle's number handy in case Uber/Lyft prices jump too high. Thanks.

There are other options that super shuttle and with a family and extra bags I would consider a towncar/ dedicated service like Lansky's or dedicated shuttle service - even PrimeTime shuttle offers direct book service at different levels without a shared van. Definitely do your research as to what would be best for your situation as the cost difference may not be much

UberX (the cheapest one) base fare runs $40-50 (that's LAX to the Grand but I figure Harbor would be about the same) but you run the risk of getting someone driving a Prius or other small car. We've had small SUVs at times using UberX but there's no guarantee. They tell you the type of car when you accept the ride and you can cancel and request another one if you won't 'fit', but that could be a bit of a pain. You'd probably need (at minimum) Uber XL $66-87 which is usually a minivan or small SUV. Uber XLs are supposed to guarantee seats for 6, so you should be fine.

My BFF, her teen DD, and I are notorious 'over packers' (Especially me!). If you think you might be too, consider 'consolidating' the clothing you're taking by mixing clothing together rather than 'your suitcase, my suitcase'. We found that we went from two large suitcases to one large and one small or medium (depending on trip length) . We also downsized our 'tote luggage' to one medium backpack, small x-body purses and one tote bag the same way. Normally we'd each have a tote/backpack of some kind plus a purse each.

Lyft was $38 for me in July, to Grand Californian. Driver told me Lyft usually less because international arriving visitors cannot use Lyft, they use Uber. (Uber is international, Lyft only takes US credit cards).

Uber was $60 more the day I arrived, obviously in a surge from high demand. It was a Sunday morning.

Always check both.

I used both services extensively when touring Orlando. It was just DS and myself so we always opted for the basic service. However, we barely fit into the car that picked us for our return to the airport on one trip! That was a nearly 2 week trip and we had a total of 2 checked bags, one carry-on and 2 backpacks. We got a smaller car and the driver had something small in the trunk that made two large bags not fit there and then she also had her personal bags in the front seat. We managed to squeeze it all in, but that was just two of us with luggage.

I've used SuperShuttle to go to DLR from all the local airports and found it to be quick and convenient. With 4 people, you will half fill a van and not face too many extra stops on the way to your hotel. Also, the difference between Harbor area hotels and Disney World hotels is that everything is so close in CA! Even if you have to stop at two hotels before your hotel, it will be a few minutes, not 45 minutes of extra driving.

We have used Lyft several times from LAX to the Grand and back to LAX. We always take early morning flights when possible, so the wife always requests the Lyft pickup the day before and notes there will be four of us with luggage. We have always had fast confirmation checks and never had a problem. Last two pickup times were for 03:45am at the Grand. Both times the drivers were there promptly at 03:45 with clean comfortable SUVs. ::yes::

Which uber did you use? We used uber to go from Desert Inn & Suites (across from Disneyland) to LAX on a Sunday morning and it cost us $105. Now, we used UberXL for 4 of us because we were worried that luggage wouldn't fit in the trunk with uberX (2 suitcases + carry one suitcase) and the driver took another route due to closures on regular route) so it cost more...I'm guessing $60 is uberX?
