Anyone taken an Uber from MCO to the port? I looked up pricing on ride guru and it said $70 one way in an uberxl. Is that right? That's a good deal if it is right. Any hidden fees?

You should tip the driver, but there are no hidden fees with Uber—unless you hit surge pricing, when the base fare can increase 25%, 50%, sometimes 100% or higher.

the port has a new rule

commercial carriers, and this includes UBER, must pay a fee to be a registered provider at the port. There is a fee and substantial insurance requirements. There have been several reports of UBER drivers dropping folks "just outside" the controlled terminal area so they can walk the rest of the way .....

"All Commercial Vehicles must be registered and permitted by the Canaveral Port Authority in order to provide transportation services within the port. ... Transportation providers are prohibited from providing services without a permit."

"Permit Holders are required to carry and maintain comprehensive automobile liability insurance with a limit of not less than $1,000,000. Evidence of coverage must be provided to the CPA for each Commercial Vehicle for which a Permit Decal is requested. The insurance coverage must list the “Canaveral Port Authority” as additional insured."

Permit classes include:
  • Non-Concessionaire (N) Permit, Off-Port Parking Operator (P) Permit, Rental Car Operator (R) Permit, Support Services (S) Permit, Taxicab (T) Permit, Vehicle for Hire (V) Permit.

We had an experience with this. We took Uber from our Orlando hotel to the port and when we got there we spent about 20 minutes driving in circles trying to find the booth that would 'register' our driver to drop us off. We were hindered by our driver's language barriers (his English was fine- but the directions were confusing even to a native speaker). So in addition to the ride, we had to pay his $5 registration fee and the charge for the extra 20 minutes of driving around.

If you take an Uber, either give yourself extra time (and an extra $5) to go through this process or make sure they are registered before they take you!
