Uber/Lyft from SNA?

I've never used Uber or Lyft... to wary of the idea. My husband will be joining us on or Easter trip, so thought I'd check it out. How do you find out what the rate will be?

We are staying at the Tropicana,so any cost estimate or advice would be appreciated.

In the app it will give an estimate based on any surge. It can go up or down a little because of time or distance depending on traffic. You might want to download both apps before you leave, so you can compare the rates before you request the ride.

It's usually about $20-30. You can download the app and plug in the destination and origin point to get the cost without actually calling for a ride.

Also, if you haven't downloaded Uber before, your first trip is free up to $22, which covers the trip from SNA to DL. When you sign up use code feeling22 https://www.uber.com/promo/ I'd never used it before when we signed up for our trip last Sept. and this worked great. I believe you want to sign up within a week or so of your trip to get the code, though; I think it expires or something. Anyway, we loved Uber and found it really easy and convenient. Our driver graciously stopped at CVS for us, on the way to our Harbor hotel, so we could grab a rack of water.

Does the app tell you what kind of vehicle you will get? I only ask because I have great difficulty getting out of a vehicle that is low to the ground.

It tells you what vehicle to expect after you've ordered one. If you don't mind paying a little more, you can order an Uber XL which would give you an SUV or minivan.

For us, it was only $18.50 for a ride from our hotel on Katella to SNA. We gave a $5-$10 tip on top of that (first one from Long Beach was excellent, second ride to SNA was fine).

We took UberX both times and both vehicles were the same type/height that a taxi would be. If you're fine getting in/out of a taxi, you should be okay.

Hi there Minnieralyks, did they add LBC to the list of OK places to pick up an Uber or did you walk off the airport site to catch it? I noticed a news article that they were going to vote (last month?) on letting Uber start picking up at LBC (UberX that is)... havent seen anything since. We fly into LBC this summer and I was hoping to grab UberX and not UberBlack since it is way more than a taxi... thank you!

We actually flew into SNA (John Wayne) and used Super Shuttle to go up to Long Beach for an overnight stay on the Queen Mary. When we were leaving the Queen Mary to go down to Disneyland for the rest of our trip, we used Uber. I do remember our Uber driver saying something about not being able to pick up at the Long Beach airport.

A taxi can definitely get expensive if you're trying to get to Disneyland. Check out Super Shuttle, as they have pretty reasonable rates. If we did a taxi from SNA to Long Beach, the quoted rate was going to be something like $70+ (not including tip). We did Super Shuttle and it was $55 (not including tip). We've always had a positive experience with Super Shuttle, so it might be worth checking into.

However, if you did want to use Uber and needed to walk off site to be able to get one, the Uber fare from Long Beach to Disneyland was about $32.50 (assuming your headed to Disneyland! ).

They are working on it but only Uber Black and Uber SUV can pick up at LGB since they are commercial car companies driving. UberX and XL are still hashing out details to allow pickups at LGB.

You could get a 4 door compact car like a Civic or Corolla or a car that has been lowered by the owner. Both are allowed by rideshare companies. You will only find out after you've ordered the ride. As PP said, if you want to guarantee a higher profile vehicle, book an Uber XL.

Yes, all levels of Uber are permitted at SNA. Use them all the time there.

With UBER, we have quite literally stopped renting cars while traveling. A lot less expensive than a taxi. A lot CLEANER than any taxi I was ever in. A lot safer drivers. New or fairly new cars. Pre-Paying makes it a lot simpler. Did I mention SAFE DRIVERS?

This is anecdotal. When an accident or crime involving a driver occurs the police don't keep statistics on whether or not the driver is an Uber or Lyft driver. Taxis are subject to inspection, Uber and Lyft self-regulate. I wouldn't fall into a false sense of security just because you haven't run into a problem or heard of one yet.

...and I would not fall into a false sense of security regarding a taxi that has had an "inspection". That is a complete farce in reality that is self inspected by the owning agency and often just penciled whipped. I have owned and operated commercial vehicles that are subject to "inspections" and it is a complete joke in regards to actual safety. Some of the biggest POS vehicles I have been in have been taxi cabs.

While no service is perfect and you will run into a few bad apples in any industry, as someone that travels EXTENSIVELY I alway feel MUCH more safe and comfortable in an Uber then a taxi. I will take the driver that had a vested interest in delivering a quality service and experience as Uber is 100% user review based vs the yahoo that just wants to get to the next fare with zero accountability...but the government says is "licensed"

We use Lyft because it lets you tip on the App. I also avoid Uber because the CEO is a complete jerk. It cost us $18 from SNA to the Candy Cane Inn.
