Just curious if anyone has tried to order an Uber or Lyft in the Disneyland area to go to LA and had a difficult time? The estimated commute is anywhere from 90 mins to 2 hours, so I imagine some Uber drivers aren't keen on this. I'd prefer to use Uber due to the cheaper cost and availability on demand, but would I be better off booking a car with a shuttle company?

Thanks!

Not quite on point, but I requested an Uber from a hotel in Burbank to get to a Disneyland hotel. I tipped well, in cash, and the driver seemed happy.

I'm a local (live in LA) who has done it several times. Never had a difficult time.

No problem at all and it isn't anywhere close to 90 min or 2 hours. We did it just this past December, LAX to hotel by Disneyland on Harbor Blvd.
I pulled the Uber receipts, we got our car at Wed 12/12 at 4:30 pm and got to the hotel at 5:39 pm
The other trip was on Tues at 3:19 pm to 4:08 pm

Lyft is typically cheaper.
Fares will vary quite a bit from market to market, so the best thing to do is have both apps and price check. Lyft is preparing for their IPO and they are offering a lot of promotions to boost their ride numbers -- so take advantage of that if you can.

The strength of the two companies also varies widely depending on market. Lyft claims something like 30% market share, but I doubt if they have half that here in Miami. I don't know how they are in Southern California.

depending on the day that trip could take over 3 hours. when I lived out there we were about 2 hours from LAX but if there was a problem on the freeway it could take 3 to 4 hours. no way to know in advance

Oh I understand that. I thought PP meant that was the standard time

I have had people who think it is like WDW and as much as I don't like Orlando airport it is nothing compare to my hate of LAX. hope it has gotten better than last time we flew in there but we use the smaller airports any time we can out there

What were the costs? DS and I just booked a flight to LAX and will be staying Anaheim area.. and driving in LA terrifies me lol but an option lol

I used Uber. I always open both apps and check fares. Honestly, I've never seen more than a $2, $3 difference though I'm a very infrequent user of the service, only using it in Orlando with any regularity. Our trip to LA was very rare. Last trip there was 2 years ago
My trip that originated at 3:00 pm was $83 (pre-tip)
My trip that originated at 4:29 was $52 (pre-tip) (I had a coupon for this trip)

I prefer them too. Unfortunately, to fly from our small airport to another small airport would mean at least 3 plane changes. So the lesser evil was LAX over 3 planes changes. But we got lucky and it was a very easy access terminal and bag check. It "FELT" like a small airport when we walked out, right to our bag claim and to the pick up spot.

first time you walk out to a freeway parking lot and it happens a lot have a brother who still lives out there and he also will not use LAX and it is second closest airport for him. I remember one of my bosses who volunteered to take an hour later flight for 2 free tickets ended up getting to Disneyland Hotel 5 hours later than others missing his first dinner. when he was telling the story he looked at me and said you know where this is going. his plane landed on time all the delay was after leaving airport

That's the nice thing about only going every 3 years. We had no bad experiences, saved hundreds of dollars AND hours of time. Both. :)

The more you go, the more you have chances for problems, the more you can learn to hate it. Like us and Atlanta

Thanks all for the replies! I feel much better about it now. I'm guessing its a fairly common route for Uber/Lyft drivers in the area.

On a related note, I'll be staying the last half of my trip at Loews Hollywood Hotel. I'll need to get from there to LAX on Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. My flight is at 5pm and I plan on using Uber/Lyft. What time would you suggest leaving the hotel for LAX?

never came from that direction but make sure you hear about traffic for that day because any day could be a problem that you would not know before hand

You will have much nicer drivers with Lyft and it will be slightly cheaper. That being said, the amount of time will vary greatly, depending on location in "LA", the day of the week and the time of the day. If going to LAX, remember to allow time for security as well.

So, you should be to the airport by 3 PM (two hours before your flight), I would say noon would be best and absolutely no later than 1 PM. But I am one that is always cautious with my flights.
