HI Everyone! So we are thinking about using Uber on our upcoming trip. We are completely new to Uber and have a basic idea of how it works, but have some questions that we can't seem to find on their website. We have a friend who is the uber queen, but she has only used it locally so she can't quite answer our questions. Is uber distance or time? I have heard both and I was just wondering bc we might be caught in traffic and I want to know if that will increase the rate. We will be traveling from the GCH to meet a friend in the Burbank area. Also, there will be 4 of us traveling in the car.. it's per car not per person, correct? So it would be the same fare if there were 1,2,3, or 4 of us.

Anything you can share for first time Uber users would be much appreciated!

Thank you, thank you! :)

It is both distance and time. Heavy traffic will increase your rate. Yes, it is per car, so it doesn't matter how many people you have as long as they all fit in the car. GCH to Burbank will run you quite a fare depending on when you go.

There is a very detailed thread on the transportation board that will give you lots of information.

Sort answer is that is is distance based, but that is also based on an estimated time...if you sit in an extra hour of traffic for example, the time meter starts kicking in a bit but it is negligible and is often figured in the fare estimate when you make the request.

They are not paid to stop and wait for ya at the supermarket like a taxi for example. It can be done if driver agrees but their algorithms on price are based on distance.

It is per car and you order what size car you want. Uber X is a standard four door...XL is a car with a third row which you probably would want for a trip of 4 to Burbank. 4 deep plus driver in say a Prius would be a bit snug!

All this information is so great! Thank you. We did plan to leave on a Monday, but now we are thinking Sunday. I know weekend traffic is not as predictable as weekday traffic.. but any idea of when might be a god time to leave to avoid as much traffic as possible? We want to leave before noon? Is 10 to around say 11 reasonable for a Sunday traveling to Burbank?

Earlier the better. There is often a 12-3p ish backup northbound I-5 through commerce.

I would recommend two things besides just Uber. Get the Lyft app as well, never hurts to compare the two services. I'd also visit ride.guru or get their app. It will compare trips between Uber, Lyft and even a Taxi.
