While in our grocery store today, I wondered just how many others are like me & use the u-scans? Ours were installed about a month ago, and there seems to be some fear of them....There was no one at them today, but the regular cashier lines were filled up with people. I only had a few items, so I breezed on through with no wait. I love that!!

So, what's your preference?

Depends on how many things i have and who I'm with. Around 15 items is my limit for Uscan.

If I have just a few things, I always use U-Scan. I think it's rude to use it for more than that.

I scan myself. THey have been around for a year at some places. Now walmart and homedepot have them.

At jewel foods you can do a fingerprint scan and link it to your CC or checking. Along with a pin #. and since the fingerprint identifies me it automaticaly knows I am over 21 so I do not get carded every time I buy beer. (at some stores it was policy to ID everyone, everytime. I think it was a local ordinance)

It depends on how many things I am buying, how busy the store it and how much of a hurry I am in. I will most often use what is most convenient. I probably use the cashier more often because I avoid grocery stores as much as possible during the busy hours.

Its great when the U scan is working and the computer reads the bar codes. Its horrible when you have more than 15 items say at Meijer. Meijer put in the U scans in the middle of the check out section and there's less regular cashiers. I think there's still bugs in their U Scan sytem b/c people are overflowing the regular cashier lines now. Grrrrr, sorry.

It depends on how many items I have. Our U-Scan machines tend to mess up if you try to do too many items at once :confused3 . If I have one or two items then I will use U-Scan. If I have lots of items or lots of produce then I use the cashier.

I always use the cashier. You know how people have so much trouble with the fingerprinting scans at WDW? Well, they seem to have that kind of trouble at the stores near me. It's less aggravating for me to just wait in the regular line.

I use if I only have a few items.

What really bugs me is the store should be paying me if I am ringing up on own groceries, bagging them, and carrying them to my car.

Exactly.

Most of the time I wait for a cashier but if I'm in a hurry or only have a few things I will use the U Scan.

I LOVE U SCAN!!!!!!! Its great if I only have a couple of items. Lots of groceries I don't mind waiting. I have a dd2 and a ds3 with no patients so fast is great with kids. Besides they like to help bag. LOL

Those have been around forever here! I love them but only with a few items if a have a whole bunch its quicker to go to the cashier. Those are in quite a few stores around here not just grocery stores. I can't believe I still see people with a few items standing in the cashier line I guess they don't know about the secret.

I like self checkout, we've had them for about two years now. I only use them if I've got 15 items or less, any more than that and it doesn't usually save me time.

My one quible is that I'd hoped that they would take the cashiers they used to have for the express lanes and open more regular lanes, but no. They still only have one or two regular lanes open, unless it's Saturday afternoon. Then they have three!

I've scanned myself when I have a few items. But the bugs aren't really worked out yet where I shop, and there seem to always be problems.

If they gave me a discount for scanning it myself I might be more motivated.

I do the self check out also, BUT the bagging thing really bothers me....for instance, if I have Milk and bread...I'm not going to put them in the same bag, I'll just put the milk in the cart, but then I can't scan because I didn't bag, I've noticed that some machines have a "skip bagging" option, but not all them. The time I wait for the checker lady to clear my machine, I would have gone to a cashier.

I don't scan myself because I think this is just another way to cut jobs and I don't want anyone else to lose their job.

I like the u-scan depending on the store. Our local Wal-Mart has them and they are easy to use and efficient. One of the local grocery stores has one and it is a pain in the neck. I was using it the other day when DH and I ran in to grab a few things, I was also in a cranky mood. The dumb thing kept saying over and over, "please wait for cashier assistance" after a few of these, I yelled at it "why?"

My DH didn't know whether to laugh or hide with his DW yelling at the machine. He did get a kick out of sharing the story with the kids and some friends who were over for dinner that night. DS is terrified that I was recognized by his many friends who work and shop there. So far no aftermath, so I must have gotten away with it :lmao:

Customers at my store can Bare-ly count out their money and use the Debit card machine, so that would be a NO here!

I hate them. On the other hand I hate even more standing in a huge line. So I end up going to whichever spot looks like it'll be a shoerter line, if it's even close I'll go to the normal cashier.
