U.K. Summer holidays 2017

Would be grateful for some advice. We are now stuck with school holidays, have been before at Easter and it was very busy, but weather good. We'd really like to go for 3 weeks this time and have some time on the coast so I think that means going in the summer hols. The question is when is best when considering crowd levels and weather? We had been thinking of going a couple of days before school breaks up in July but have read that quieter at end of Aug? Also if you regularly go at this time of year when do you book flights? When they are released or do you try to get in a sale?

It is quieter at the end of August , as schools in USA tend to go back earlier. In July it is busy esp when u bear in mind July 4th is a national holiday. When I was teaching we had to go in the school holidays. Aug is hot but there lots of air con shops ' rides to get refreshed in. You have the obligatory thunder storm in the afternoon, but it clears the air.

I used to go for my birthday ( 17th) and often around the 10th Florida had tax free shopping to help parents kit children out for school. Bonus savings on clothes & trainers!

End of August and into September will be a bit quieter and flights probably a bit cheaper. Good years are when the school holidays fall so they get days off in the first week of September. You also get one days BH in this period so one days less annual leave to use.

I am planning a trip with my brother and his family who live in London. Their daughter is entering nursery school in January (turns 3 Dec 2016) so they are not up to speed on holiday dates. Will a trip from Aug 12-26 2017 be generally safe?

You should be fine with those dates. Virtually all schools only return during the first week in September.
