Typhoon Lagoons Snorkeling

I've never heard of SCUBA at TL...only snorkeling. My DH did the SCUBA program at the Living Seas in Epcot, though, and loved it.

My DD9 and myself did this in November and although she is not a bd swimmer she did have a bit of a hard time without a floatation device on.. We have been to Discovery Cove and she wore a wet suit so she had no problems as long as she was wearing something that kept her body up.

I have done the TL snorkeling several times. The best time to do it is early in the morning, when you first get there. That way, you don't have any sunscreen on to harm the fish. Also, it is less crowded and you can swim SLOWLY across the fish areas. During the afternoon it gets crowded and you get "herded" forward.

The water is a bit cold, but you get used to it quickly. There are lots of neat looking fish and it's a good way to try snorkeling without paying for an excursion.

Will they allow you to use your own gear? I just hate the idea of using one that someone else has used.:earseek:

It is nice to try snorkeling this way for first timers but if you have been snorkeling in the ocean, it doesn't really compare.
I agree to go first thing in the a.m.--otherwise it is too crowded and "rushed".:sunny:

Does anyone know what type of floatation device they use at TL. I am a fairly new at snorkeling and did well with the vest they used at TL but have not done as well since with the regular snorkel vest. Does anyone know what they use and where I can get one of my own?
Thanks,
Carla:confused:

DD5 tried snorking at TL last week and she loved it.
I don't think there is an age requirement.

In 2003 we used swim googles. This year (2004) we were not allowed to and had to use their mask and snorkel. My daughter (10) was not used to that equipment and really fiddled more with it then enjoyed the swim :(....

Still, one of my favorite things to do there..
