Typhoon Lagoon Wave Pool?

Hi, I was not sure which board this belonged on. How strong are waves at Typhoon Lagoon in the wave pool? We recently went to our local waterpark and I noticed along the pool's edges close to the walls that the waves were very strong enough to knock you down.

My granddaughters are 8 and 9 and after seeing this we made them put on life jackets. The waves were knocking people off of their inner tubes and then the next wave would slam the tube into anyone in it's way.

Is it the same at Typhoon Lagoon? Is it different depending on where you are in the pool? They really want to go to the water parks but I am concerned about the wave pool.

Well you can certainly skip the wave pool. Yes, the waves are strong enough to knock you over, and when it's crowded people knock into each other too. FOr the most part it's pretty safe, but I can tell you from experience, on my first trip to WDW, at age 8, I got knocked over by a wave at TL and scraped my foot really hard. I still have a scar, and I didn't care for wave pools after that! But you can also tell them not to go out so far if you are worried. At that age I LOVED the lazy river. There is still plenty to do.

The wave pool at TL has large waves that run every 30mins I think? A horn will go off when the big waves are coming. Other than that its just light waves most of the time. Skip the wave pool if you don't feel comfortable there's lots of other things to do at the park!

The Blizzard Beach wave pool has rolling waves and are not as strong as TL's. This may be a better option if you are concerned about TLs wave pool.

The waves at Typhoon Lagoon are big enough so that they give surfing lessons in the morning before the park opens. Waves are big and if you aren't watching you can get swept off your feet.

Blizzard Beach has the bobbing pool (to me a waste of good space) and it isn't nearly as big as the wave pool at TL. But you might want to try that instead of TL.

First, there are no tubes. The waves are certainly strong enough to knock you over unless you go deep enough that you miss where the wave breaks. There are shallow areas to the sides where it is not so bad, but the water isn't very deep and probably not a lot of fun. If the wave pool is an issue, go to Blizzard Beach. The wave pool is much tamer with constant waves. Slides are actually a little better at BB for that age in my opinion.

When the waves are big, they are really big. And the two biggest dangers are the bottom of the pool (it is really easy to get scraped up) and other swimmers (its really easy to get slammed into). I like Typhoon Lagoon a lot more than Blizzard Beach, but avoid the wave pool when the big waves are out. TL has the snorkel lagoon and the water coaster.

At TL, I like hanging at the edge of the wave pool closer to the beach. The waves definitely roll through back there but are much less forceful. You still have to brace yourself a little when the larger waves are rolling through but definitely not as strong as being up front.

I think they will love Blizzard Beach's wave pool and will really like the tweens area, Ski Patrol!
