A family member who is an experienced surfer (who grew up on the west coast) wants me to get more info on the Typhoon Lagoon surfing class. He's interested in doing it basically just for the opportunity to surf in a Disney water park. He lives in an area now that is far from the ocean & any sort of surfing opportunities, so the Typhoon wave pool during family vacation may be the only opportunity he has to surf this upcoming year.

He really doesn't need lessons, so basically he wants to know:

1. If he takes the class, will he be able to just listen in while they go over the basics, and then surf kind of on his own while other less experienced folks get more of a "lesson"?
2. Are there any other opportunities to surf the wave pool besides taking the pre-park opening lessons?
3. Do adults take lessons or will he stand out as the only adult in the class?

1. No

2. Yes - call 407-WDW-SURF. There are people who will set up after-hours surf parties. These are limited to 25 people. The least I have ever seen in a group was three and they tend to have about 12 people. As a general rule the parties will order the minimum 100 waves, at about 90 second intervals. The cost is $12 or $14, per wave ordered, and shared equally by the number of people in the party. Unlike the lessons, the surfers have to provide their own boards. Often surfers can rent boards from the people organizing/running the party.

3. Yes, adults do take lessons and will not stand out.
