Typhoon Lagoon-scuba

I was just wondering if anyone has done the scuba in shark reef area at Typhoon Lagoon. I know it is $20 but wondered if it was worth it for my daughter. Has anyone tried? Is it worth the money? Would you recommend it? Thanks!

Are you sure its scuba and not snorkeling? Big difference as scuba is more $$$, and you need to be certified. I dont think they offer that at TL (Epocts Living Seas yes). Scuba is where you wear an air tank and dive under the water vs snorkeling you wear a mask, snorkel and fins and basically swim on the surface.

If your daughter likes to swim (and is comfortable) and enjoys looking at fish, then she will probably like it. The shark idea might be a bit frightening though (how old is she?). The sharks they have in there are not harmful, are well fed, and mainly stay in the deeper water vs the surface. They wouldnt let you swim in there otherwise! Now if you were to dive down and harass them, thats another story!

My dh and I went last time we were at WDW. It was fun, but the water was real cold!!! How is your DD in the water? They say not to splash or make any sudden movements. You get in the water on one side and swim directly across. They don't allow you to explore. One of the sharks came a little close, but overall the just left us alone. One girl, approx 11 yrs old, panicked and one of the CM's quickly helped her to the other side.

We have done the snorkeling side over and over our last trip...she was 9 then. She is 11 and a very good swimmer. It does say this is scuba and you are able to get your first taste of scuba in the shark reef. They do give brief lessons and parents can attend kids without renting. How old was your daughter? Did she like it? Would she do it again? I just think this would be a once in a lifetime experience and something different to boot. Thanks for all the replies. My DD was only 6 and didn't do it, but I saw lots of kids in there. They'll probably give you a refund if she gets in and changes her mind. Good luck and have fun!!!

As I understand it, you're breathing through a scuba regulator, and are able to stay in for about 30 minutes, but you are on the surface the entire time. I assume it's the same/similar equipment that is used at the Epcot Aqua Seas Tour.

I agree with the previous comment. I was a little freaked out(I have an irrational fear about sharks and other creatures that swim in the ocean). Although once I calmed myself down, I tried to enjoy it. Although DH said that I got to the other end of the pond in record time. The water is very cold, so you have to be prepared for that. My sons aged 8 and 10 did just fine but my 6 yr old daughter freaked out. We had to take her out. She did not want to swim with sharks and other creatures. Plus two other little girls were screaming and crying and it became mass hysteria. I would never force her to do something which really scared her so we just did the baby swap.

I would definitely recommend it for adults and as for kids, it depends on if they are comfortable with the idea.
