I'll be making the trek to the World in July with 4 teens who are not swimmers and one teen who is. They WANT to go to Typhoon Lagoon. :confused3
Would you recommend it? My feeling is, stay at the Resort pool, less hassle. What do you think?

They would be fine at all of the slides. All of the slides that end in more than a few inches of water are no more than 3 or 4 feet deep. Same with the lazy river. The only potential problem would be if the non-swimmer went in too deep in the wave pool.

I agree with the post above. I go to TL a lot with my parents who are both non-swimmers. They come in the wave pool with me, but we just don't go down too far.
The thing we enjoy most is the lazy river. It's a lot of fun and you don't need to be able to swim.

I agree. I wasn't 100% sure if you meant they didn't want to get wet at all or if they just don't really know how to swim. If they don't really swim, the end pools after the slides are not deep and would you just need to walk out. You can walk along the lazy river or ride a raft. So if that's the problem, just don't go out to far in the wave pool and you are great.

If they don't like to swim or get wet period then yes, it's a waste of money to take them to Typhoon Lagoon because that's all that's there.

Thanks for the replies, and sorry for the confusion. Yes, they want to get wet!! They want to participate in everything the water park has to offer even though they don't swim! Thanks, I feel better now.

If they are worried about not being able to swim and going in the wavepool, you can get lifejackets at guest services for free. (there's a $25 deposit, but it's refunded when you return them)

I would make sure that they are comfortable in 3-4 feet water. Especially after coming off a slide, most of the time on their back. I have seen too many people panic when there feet are not touching anything, when all they need to do is put their feet on the ground.

Have they been to other water parks?

If they plan on going in the wave pool, I would recommend the Lifejackets, that a previous poster mentioned,

Hope you go and ALL have fun. We are going to TL for the first time at the end of April.

My DD17 is a non-swimmer (biggest regret of my life but that's another story) and loves Typhoon Lagoon. As other posters have stated, all the slides are no problem. Some of them end in 4 feet of water but only when you are on a tube. The wave pool is the only place that she felt uncomfortable. She went out chest deep and when the wave came it pushed her to shore but being a non-swimmer it made her nervous (so she just went into shallower water).

Also, check your local YMCA about swimming lessons geared towards adults. They can at least learn enough basics that panic shouldn't get them coming off slides. They may also enjoy the wave pool better (one of my groups fav things to do there), but I would consider renting a couple of life jackets for that.
