Typhoon Lagoon for a not-so-good swimmer

My BF is wanting to go to Typhoon Lagoon on our next trip, but I'm a little hesitant to do so. I'm not very confident with swimming in deep water. At Typhoon Lagoon, how deep is the water in the lazy river and in the pools where you come off the water slides?

Thanks for your help!

About 3 feet deep on Lazy River and up to 5 feet deep at the ends of the water slides.

You may become disoriented when you splash down from the water slides and you need to be able to find your way to the surface as opposed to clawing at the bottom for awhile. Hence the need to be able to swim.

3-5 feet won't be too bad for me. Thanks so much for that information! It makes me feel a little better about going :)

Castaway creek at Typhoon lagoon is deeper than the lazy river at Blizzard beach by around 1 foot. I have no trouble swimming around TL but at BB my knees catch on the bottom of the lazy river. I would say 3ft and 4 ft deep for the two.

I would recommend not going too far in the wave pool! It can get really deep (as it is designed for surfing too) I just prefer to paddle around in the shallows!

Have a great trip! :wizard:

Thank you both for your feedback. I didn't realize how shallow the water would actually be. I was thinking it would be much deeper. I feel a lot more confident about going now. I definitely won't go very deep in the wave pool. It'll make me a nervous wreck that I'll be pulled under!

Since you are asking, I was surprised to find that the mini-lazy river at the Beach Club resort IS fairly deep. It's more like 6 or may be even 8 feet deep. I was surpresed it weas that deep since most lazy rivers are not that deep. Most of teh rest of the BC pool is fairly shallow. It goes to 5feet at one or two other spots also, but mostlky it's about 4feet deep. Most WDW pools are mostly about 4feet deep.

I am only 5 ft tall and I was able to stand up in all the pools at the ends of the slides we went on, so I'm not sure which one was 5 ft. My DS was only 7 and not a good swimmer and he was able to go on all the slides and get out of the pools at the bottom without any problems. You only have to go about 20 feet until you are getting out after the slide.

The lazy river is very shallow.

30 inches and 36 inches, I believe. The last time we went to TL, it was barely too deep for DD to touch bottom, and she was ~40 inches at the time. At BB, she could walk around tippy-toed.

Just an FYI for the wave pool at TL. The waves can be VERY strong, just make sure you have good footing and are paying attention, it's easy to get knocked down there, even in the shallow parts. My mom and my neice (she was about 4 or 5) were sitting in the shallow water, right on the edge (their rear ends barely in the water) and one of the bigger waves came and knocked them off balance (and they were sitting!)

That's why I got worried about the depth. We were considering staying at the Beach Club at one point, but when I heard the lazy river was 8 ft deep, I worried that I wouldn't be able to enjoy the pool area at all!

I'm so glad to hear about the water parks though. I'm 5'7", but when I can't touch the bottom I get very anxious!

You don't have to be able to even swim to go to Typhoon Lagoon. Thats the ironic thing. I'm not the tallest person, but I can stand up in the lazy river.

Swim safely!!!!!:woohoo:
