Going in the summer this year and thinking about renting one. For those that have rented one before do you recommend? Also, any one remember which one they had that they recommend? I heard a few are not entirely private. Thanks in advance!

I have some limited knowledge/experience here, but not a ton... but I’ll give your question a shot anyway. Someone please chime in if any of my facts are wrong.

Quality water park cabana info is a bit hard to find on the DIS, and on the web in general. There is good info around, but it’s burried in threads and inconsistent. Here’s a post (and thread) from last summer that has some pretty good info: https://www.disboards.com/threads/typhoon-lagoon-cabanas.3602117/page-2#post-58072233

The map shows the two “clusters” of TL cabanas. One is located by the wave pool in a pretty central spot; the other is more private/isolated and near the lazy river.

The cabanas around the wave pool are numbered 7-12 (I think it goes up to 12, not totally sure). In September, we had cabana #9 which is the one on the very tip of that area close to the shallow end of the wave pool. Great location, no complaints at all.

In my humble opinion, #7 or #8 are the two in inferior locations - those are more ‘open’ to a main walkway and have limited privacy. The other cabanas near the wave pool area, like the one I had, are more isolated in a roped off area.

Do I recommend them? Eh, I think it depends. It depends on your group size, your water park style, your needs, etc. We enjoyed it, but it’s not a must have. The shade is a plus, as is shelter in case of weather (note, some are thunderstorm safe, some are not, they tell you when you check in).

I’m not really a fan of the cabana food menu. Really expensive, even for Disney standards... and limited options. Of course, you can get your own food from any place in the park as well.

Hope that helps. Happy to answer any questions. :-)

We rented one at TL back in August of 2013. I could share pictures but they're no longer on the web since photobucket got greedy. We had one overlooking the wave pool and we loved it. There were four of us at the time, 2 adults and 2 kids. I thought it was worth it, but I'm particularly averse to staking out a spot and worrying about my stuff. Having the cabana assuaged all that. I even ended up taking a nap in the cabana while DW took the littles in the lazy river.

We got one in November 2016. We got one of the ones near the lazy river entrance. If I remember correctly there was 5 of them in the group and we had one over looking the river. It was nice to have a place to sit and rest and we really liked getting the bottle water. We even asked and received a bunch of water to take with us. There is a locker inside to store valuables which is nice too. We liked it because you had your own private spot and liked the VIP treatment. Would I do it again probably not because honestly I wasn't impressed with the water park and enjoyed really only the lazy river and wave pool and did not enjoy the slides. I will stick with the hotel pool and not go to the water parks but my favorite part was having the cabana for sure.

We had cabana 11 this past summer ... we were a party of 8 (5 adults, 3 kids) ... we felt it was a great location. We had booked mostly to not have to deal with finding a spot where we could all fit together. Turned out the day we had booked, the park was pretty empty due to not so great weather and so we could have had our pick of spots. The policy is that You cannot cancel a cabana day of, so if you need perfect weather to enjoy a water park, that might be something to consider. ( fwiw, It actually ended up being one of our best water park experiences.).

Also when booking in advance, you can only book up to 6 people ... the additional 2 people in our group were noted on the reservation, but we had to pay $25ish for each of them when we checked in that day. (We were told this when booking, so it wasn’t a surprise.)

Agree with the PP who mentioned that the cabana food offerings weren’t the greatest ... expensive and everything was geared to serve 4. Our awesome hostess ended up bringing us single servings of what we wanted, but I think this was likely because it was such a quiet day. Refillable mugs, unlimited towels, and bottled water are included.

Speaking of our cabana host, I think we threw her for a bit of a loop. We’re pretty self sufficient and she seemed genuinely surprised when she would come by and notice that our used towels weren’t strewn about, and our garbage/recycling had been taken care of.

We would book a cabana at TL again; it definitely has more ‘return on investment’ on a busy/typical park day though.
