Typhoon Lagoon Beachcomber Shack: Locations (numbers & preferences), Category & Requests

Give me all the information! I have read all the discussions, watched all the videos, listened to the podcasts, and am still trying to gather information for our August trip. I love how the hive mind here at the Dis has all the great info!

1. Is there really a need for a party of 8 (2 young children) to book anything other than a standard? The BSs are VERY expensive during premium season. We weren't going to book one - never have and never missed it - but with the August heat and a napping toddler thinking one would be nice.

2. Location, location, location! Is the area to the right (facing) of the wave pool preferable? Or the Getaway Glen area near the ice cream shack and by the lazy river? I noted in another thread that #16-20 are by Miss Adventure Falls and not desirable, #13-15 are by Crush N Gusher and are great - are any of these a standard? Looking for info on the other 2 larger locations.

3. Can you even request a specific one? Is there a list somewhere? One podcast indicated to get to TL for rope drop and get to check-in to request a specific one but I'm thinking they are already assigned and it might depend on the mood of the CM to grant your wish.

3. You cannot request a location. I tried twice and was turned down both times and we were assigned our shack prior to check in. It appears they are assigned in the order that they get reserved.

All I know is that 13 is a deluxe, and yes, it is by the Crush N Gusher pool, and we thought it was ideal for our group. It was SO nice having an easy swimming area right beside it, for all of us, from an infant to grandparents.

Great info! I didn't realize you could use the pool for a swimming area - it is not just for entry from the water slides?

There's a rope to block off the area where the slides come out from the rest of the pool. One of my kids likes to play there while my other kid and I do the slides.
