Type of diapers required for pools? Packing for the parks?

Well, you can probably tell from the title this is the first time I'm taking our DD to Disney. She'll be 19months when we go, so I'm assuming she won't be potty trained yet. What type of diapers are required for the pools, and where can I get them from? We will be staying at the Yacht Club if it should happen to vary for each hotel.

Also, for the pool, how much do you bring in a diaper bag? And if they play in the water areas in the parks, do you just go change the diaper afterwards?

Any help/tips would be great. Thanks!

Hi! All of the Disney pools and water parks have signs posted stating that children not potty trained must weat swim diapers or plastic diapers.

I used Huggie Little Swimmers when last year. (didn't need them this year!) yea!

They sell these in little two or three to a pack in all of the gift shops near the water areas that I have been to at Disney but be prepared to pay out the wazoo for them. But if you want to save space packing, then you could just buy them there.

I used to take the diaper bag of dry clothes and diaper and a juice cup or two. I never had anyone bother any of it. I saw strollers around the pool last week at CSR when I was there.

Have fun!

I have two washable swim diapers for my three-year-old. They are kind of hard to find, but are made by osh kosh, Gap and other big name brands. I think I paid about $8, which is less than a pack of the disposables! The pool manager at the pool we go to daily recommended them.

We are planning for our Sept-Oct trip and bringing our 6 month old with us. We went to Babies R Us to find a stroller duffel for the plane and found a washable swim diaper for $6.99. It claims "Secure protection helps meet health standards in public pools" and "No Diaper Necessary". Definitely cheaper than buying disposables.

If there is no Babies R Us near you, try their web site. I will attempt to attach the link (never did it before). If it does not work, check out babiesrus.com and type "swim diaper" in the search window. Unfortunately they only sell them in 2-paks on the web site.

I found them much easier to deal with on vacations.

Just throw them away after use.

The disposiables are not two expensive if you plan ahead. I find coupons for them all the time - then just buy them at Walmart where thing are not as expensive as other over priced baby stores.

As a big swimming family and one who has used both types extensively - I have to suggest you at least put the washables in your bag. It's not just a matter of money, but to me they are sooo much more convenient. With the disposables you have to take up a huge chunk of suitcase to store them, or no swimming until you get to the store. If you run out, the fun's over till you can get to a store (happened several times), plus they turn into an ooey, gooey mess that looks really uncomfortable to me. And as if that's not enough, you have to keep them separate from everything in your wet and possibly sandy swim bag or they'll get ruined before you even use them. The washables are just like the rest of the families swimwear - kept in the same bag, rinsed and hung to dry along with the rest of the families stuff. Way easier and more comfy for baby. Most folks at our pool put a plain swimming suit over the disposables, for looks, which has to be rinsed anyway. In all the time we've been using washables (almost daily and my babes 3 now) he's never once pooped in it, but if he did and I were squeemish (hah!), at $7 bucks I could just throw it away! :)

We have always used the Little Swimmers from Huggies with great success. Our only challenge has been in many areas they are not available year-round. We went to WDW in April, and tried Target, Wal-Mart and two grocery stores and nobody had them yet between home and there. The Wal-Mart down the street from Disney did have them, but if you are planning an off swimming season trip you may want to get some now while they are in the stores just in case they are not later or the stores in the area are out. Since our DD is the type who wants to swim daily we didn't want to buy them on property - too expensive!

On our recent trip with my 5 mo. old DD, we "double bagged" her. She is only about 12.5 lbs., and the Huggies start at 16 lbs. So, I put a Huggies Little Swimmer on her and on top of that, I put on a cloth swim diaper that I bought at BRU. On top of all that, went her Disney themed swimsuit.

This way, if she did need to use the diaper, I could just throw it out afterward, and the elastic on the legs and waist of the properly sized cloth swim diaper gave protection from any 'floaters'. Of course, if she were more than 16 lbs., I probably wouldn't have bothered with the cloth.

It turned out that she never made use of the diapers, they were always clean and dry on the inside when we changed her out of them after swimming.
