We're crusing at the end of January and I wonder what type of clothes I should pack.

Should I be packing shorts and t-shirts or jeans and sweaters or a combination of both? What would you recommend for our day bag?

I had originally thought all Summer clothes, but I'm not sure. What is the general temperature on the ship? Is it warm enough to wear shorts? Should DD wear shorts to the club? Or is long pants better?

Thanks for any help!

we cruised Eastern in January of 2002. The port was cool--jeans and a windbreaker cool. as we traveled, it got warmer and muggier. After the first day, we were wearing shorts and swimsuits. There is something wonderful about being in the caribbean sea in January.

that way you are prepared for everything!

Last year for the Wonder Cruise at the same time it was just bearable! Thanks to Minybear was prepared for the COLD! We were the luckier ones 'cause when we hit Nassau it was cool but could still wear shorts. The woman who did DD's hair said that just prior to our arrival they were wearing any and all clothing they owned 'cause it was so cold!

I would pack a light jacket and pants for the Port.

Here's to a warm spell since they are having a cold spell right now! Last year it was the other way around!

Keeping fingers, toes, eyes and what ever parts crossed for warm weather for our Cruise!

CC was cool but if I got in then it was awsome weather! I like bathtub water temps! Maybe I was just happy that we made it to CC!

See your real soon!

Looks like I'll probably overpack, just to be safe. In January 2001, we were at WDW and the temps were in the 40s. We were freezing (and unprepared). Then, last May we were at WDW and it wasn't under 95 any day we were there. We ran out of shorts by the 3rd day were were there. I'll just pack what I can and bring plenty of laundry detergent, just in case.

Thanks!

January is tipically COLD. When we went to WDW this last January it got into the 30's and warmed up to the 60's when we were on the ship. Be prepared for cold weather, but still bring your t-shirts just in case where the cruise ship takes you it is nice outside for t-shirts. Also when we were on the ship on Deck 9 and Deck 10 was downright cold and windy. Be prepared.

Scratch - I was hoping for the same thing. It seems a little chilly for FL now, so hopefully, it'll warm up for us!

Miny - Were you guys able to swim at all? Was it too cold to hang out on a verandah? DH will be so disappointed if it's too cold to do anything fun and warm.

See you guys soon!

It was too cold to swim on the ship last time (brrrr). When we went to CC (and it warmed up that day) we wore our swimsuits but just barely got our feet wet in the water.

January is almost here. See you soon.:)

'cause DD was struck by the dreaded "Tube Steak"! Long story, but I had to spend two days in our cabin while she recouped! That's why this time we are going for 7 and with a verandah! And of course Bomine, Sea Bands and Ginger! Pullin' out all the stops! DD has not eaten a "Tube Steak" (Hot Dog) since then!

So as far as weather, it looked great from the PortHole!LOL

As far as I'm concerned, I get to meet with my friend Minybear and her DH! It's Disney and that's my Happy Place!

Whatever the weather brings, we can't change it so we make do!LOL But still hoping the Pixie Dust covers our cruise for a great time to be had by all of us!

Is it January yet?:hyper: :hyper:

Scratch, that's awful! Poor thing. Hopefully you will all avoid hot dogs (thanks for clearing up what tube steak meant) and have a very healthy and happy trip.

I'll be okay in any weather and hopefully DH will too. I just can't wait. I also can't believe it's only 28 days away!

Your DD is so adorable!

Right now DD is trying on shoes again! I'm gonna need another suitcase!LOL

PS As far as weather is concerned, we can't do anything about it, we are headed further south so at least St. Marten and St. Thomas will be warm! God willing CC will also be warm! If not it is a beautiful island just to be on!

See you real soon!

Thanks! Now that I'm home and have my own computer to work on, I've been playing! I think I doubled my post count in the last few days and have uploaded all my pictures from the last 6 months. :o I've missed having a real computer and a cable connection sooooo much!

See you!

Jenn - we've been in St Martin in November and in July and the weather was the same both times. The locals told us that they are the tropics and the weather is the same year round. I'm looking forward to shorts and bathing suits at least for a few days. I'm packing pants and sweat shirts for the day we leave and also taking sweat shirts for Castaway Cay and of course the day we get off the ship.

Here's hoping for a heat wave the last week of January.

Jamie - Thanks for the info. I think I'll start to pack tomorrow. I'm home and DH is working, so I'll have some time to myself, when DD is "resting".

To steal from Scratch, is it January 24th yet?

Jenn - cute picture. I always love when our fellow cruise members take over a thread. I guess we're all thinking the same thoughts right now - what to pack! I keep coming home from shopping and putting more stuff on the pile. I know that getting everything in one suitcase will be hard.

I have a silly question that I never thought I'd ask - but here goes...I found a beautiful velvet(?) dress...clearly post-holiday on sale for a ridiculous price. It has no sleeves, deep plunging front a broach. The velvet seems to say "winter"....can anyone give me their thoughts on wearing it for formal night? And please don't tell me to wear what I'm comfortable in...I'm looking for that honest woman's answer! I have several dresses to choose from and I'm just trying to determine if the velvet will look out of place on a cruise. Again, I have a household of guys who give me the answer I'm looking for just to get me to move away from the tv
:tilt:  So please be brutally honest!!!
Thanks
Karen

The velvet dress sounds very nice for formal night. we cruised Jan. of 2002, and saw lots of velvet and sequins, mostly short dresses, but there were several long also.

Don't forget even though we are sailing into "Summer" the dining rooms will be air conditioned.

Plus think how great you will look for the formal pic!

I say go for it!

Karen -

First, a warning: I wasn't born with the fashion gene. I wear white way after Labor Day and the words "little black dress" induce a panic attack.

That being said - I agree with Scratch. Go for the velvet. It's winter after all. My only thought would be to make sure your entire family dresses similarly in attire (winter wear vs spring/summer fashion) so that no one sticks out like a sore thumb in the picture.
