two way radios

I have never used them before but I think this will be a must for my next trip with teenager....
Has anyone used them at the parks?
Do they work or is it too noisy?
What should I look for in a radio if I do?

I would try and get the newer 5 mile range ones, we have the two mile range radios and with all the obstacles in the parks, you dont get very much range.

But it is good if your trying to meet up in a particular place, you can relay exactly where your at. Even with the reduced range, it is def a good idea.

We finally broke down and took a pair when we went over New Year's Eve...and I'm so glad we did. It was really crowded and DH and I each had one of our daughters by the hand but we got separated constantly. A lot of times I could just ring and he would stop (dear hubby trains so easily!), but there were times when we split up for various reasons. Make sure you get ones that have sub channels. It took us awhile to find a channel no one else was on. Also, it's a good idea to have two way radios that you can recharge and not have to worry about batteries. We have Cobra models.

Yup, get the 5-mile ones (GMRS, and not FRS) and the one that comes with battery charger and rechargeable batteries. Mine is Cobra 240. It costs a bit more, but in the long run you'll save in battery purchases.

You have to pick out your secret code name. My first choice for DH was Goofy but for obvious reasons that wouldn't work! My DH also refuses to answer to "Big Daddy"!
