Hi,

Leaving in the morning for the Magic . I wanted to bring two-way radios for on board and have a few questions:
- Have you used them onboard and do they have decent recieption on board?
- Do 2-mile range two-ways work or would you recommend bringing 5-mile range? I have both but the 2-mile range ones are tiny. I'd rather bring them if they work.

Quick answers/input appreciated!

We used the motorola talk abouts (2 mi range)on the ship and from the ship to the terminal. The biggest problem we had was that other people were on the channel we chose. I'd recommend that you pick out several channels to try in order just in case others chose the same channels.

We used Motorola with 2 mile range but found poor reception from top deck to Stateroom on deck 5. No problem if moved outside onto verandah.

It's virtually impossible to choose a non-occupied channel if you only have the 13 channel models. I've heard people get very nasty and possessive. Get a model with subchannels, and better yet, one that lets you block out transmissions unless they come from a family member's radio. The ship has so much metal that transmission can be bad no matter how many miles your range is supposed to be.

I have the radios but didn't take them. I took them once to Disneyland and SOOOOOO many other people had them too that they were useless.
I just figured with so many people using them, and all the metal in the ship (these radios work best line of sight) that they would be useless on the ship.
Did laugh when I did see folks with them, they'd hear "mom, dad" on them, and then realize it was someone else's kid!!!

I had that happen at Disney World once. I was trying to contact my husband at Epcot (he had gone to a presentation in the Millenium Village and turned the radio off temporarily). There was a very nice but confused older man who was totally convinced that I was trying to reach HIM, no matter what I said!
