If I had 2 uy's can I book say 4 nts with 1( uy Aug) and 2 nts with the other (uy Sept) and link them, as long as I have enough pts.

Or you can transfer the # of points you need for the entire ressie from 1 account to the other and then book the entire stay under 1 reservation. (otherwise you have to wait 11/7 month date from the 2nd check-in date using the different contract)

It's not horrible, but if you could avoid 2 UYs, I would. You can get by with transferring (1 transfer per year in or out), but it just takes more effort. For example, I had banked points in both UYs that I needed to use. No matter how I sliced and diced it, I was going to lose points unless I combined the points together to make the reservation. When under the same UY, it's just one big bucket of points (which is how transferring points helps). I ended up selling the two contracts under one of my UYs, mostly because I HATED the Aug UY. When we repurchased, as enticing as some other contracts were, we went with the same UY we currently have (December). Again, not horrible and not unmanageable, but definitely not ideal. Had we kept the Aug UY contracts, I would have transferred all of the points annually so that the only thing I had to think about was banking and expiring points, not how to divvy things up to make the reservation.

Hey now, no dissing the August use year! :lmao:
We have it, too - not the best with a March banking deadline. Better not ever need to change a summer trip - which will get hard with a kid about to start school.

Anyway, I agree, avoid multiple use years to avoid multiple contracts/memberships. It's not impossible, but why do it if you don't have to? We went so far as to put my parents on our contracts (we're on theirs) so that all of our points would be considered one membership.

And, for sake of argument, have to be in your window for both reservations. I guess if your making 2 at a non-home resort, it would be the same. All my contracts are the same UY, even though it is not optimal (June UY and 1 vacation is in Spring Break in April).

:lmao: I was kinda using it in vain, huh? I tried to do research, but you don't know what you don't know! DH is a teacher, so we're stuck with the school schedule for a LONG time. I can't tell you how many times I banked a small number of points, which forced me to travel in July when I would have preferred to go in Aug. I know...blah, blah, blah! So glad to just have a Dec UY. :thumbsup2 The AUG UY was a bigger issue than having two UYs, but definitely a pain in the rear!

Funny. We have a Sept UY and we LOVE IT! Although, it's really hard to find resales with Sept UY contracts, as I found out this past month or two.

Another 'yes' answer about linking.

Just want to disagree with others who say that 2 UYs are a pain. They CAN be a pain, but if your idea of a good time is to sit with a cup of coffee and work out points and future vacations ...... well, sure you get the idea ;)

I've always had an April UY but now we are retired, we like a winter vacation as well as a larger family vacation every other year in April/May, so I purchased an October UY contract too and it has made things so much easier. And I own at 3 resorts ...... I'm fond of spreadsheets though :lmao:

Technically, this shouldn't work if the two contracts are at different resorts or different UY's. The transferred points should retain the characteristics of the original contract (UY, home resort, etc).

However, this is a glitch that Disney doesn't seem to have closed the loophole on. Frankly, it is an unfair use of points.

For instance, assume I have a 300 point SSR contract with the low dues and all. I buy a 25 point BLT contract and transfer my SSR points to BLT every year to make the 11 month reservation with 325 "BLT points". See how that is not fair to BLT owners?

Just wanted to point out that someone might be able to get by with this, but hopefully they will stop this with on-line reservations.

Yes. The biggest problem with 2 UY is that if you use both UYs on a vacation you can only book WHOLE nights. In your case, it would work fine. However, you can't combine points between the two UY to book a night unless you transfer points. It takes careful planning to avoid getting orphaned points (too few to use on a night) in your UYs.

That is correct. Sorry I did not clarify. The points do retain the home resort, and the UY stays the same. Where transferring makes it easier is when you are at the 7 month mark, you can combine points any way you want without having to worry. Sorry if I implied otherwise.

No problem. My comments were really more about the post from dbs1228 which seemed to clearly be an attempt to circumvent the home resort reservation advantage.

And off topic, but good luck in the NCAA tournament. I don't think anyone can stop OSU this year!

From what I understand Granny DVC did correct that glitch a year or two ago and transferred points do retain their original characteristics so that can't be done any more. I think dbs1228 was just saying that if you don't transfer then you can't make the reservation all at once if you are at the start of your 11/7 month booking window. ie - MS won't recognize that at 7 months you've booked the first 3 nights from your UY so you can add another 2 nights at that time. Instead if you don't transfer you have to wait until the 7 month window opens for the last 2 nights.

And I fully expect with online booking that none of us will be able to book anything at all! :rotfl: Just kidding - I think......

Oh my goodness! Thank you so much. I am SO nervous. We are in a tough bracket, so whoever makes it to the final game will have fought hard and deserve to be there! I sure hope it's my Buckeyes! :cloud9:

Let's see if I have this right. We are purchasing a small VWL contract with a March UY. We currently have contracts at OKW & BWV with an August UY. We want to use the VWL points for a May, 2012 vacation for 5 nights at 44 pts per night for a total of 220 points needed. When we call for ressies at the 11 month window in June, 2011, with banking and borrowing, we will have 150 points at VWL. That will cover only 3 of the 5 nights with 18 pts left over. We have enough points at OKW & BWV to make up the difference but a transfer would not work because those points retain their original resort and UY and therefore are only good at the 7 month window at VWL. We have two options at this point - 1) purchase VWL transfer points from a DVC member to make up the difference or 2) make a cash ressie for the remaining two nights and then at the 7 month window, use our OKW/BWV points for the two nights (if available) and cancel the cash ressie. Am I understanding this correctly?

Yes, that is all correct. Although you don't say when you are going in May the good thing is that we've found it to be an easier time to book so you should have a good chance get the additional 2 nights on points at the 7 month window should you decide to wait rather than transfer in points.

Buckeye - wanted to thank you for helping me out on my add on question earlier. Since you were so nice, didn't have the heart to mention that my wildcats were going to take you down this friday, so i'll mention it on someone else's question.

Go Cats!

In April we'll be dvc friends again and I'll have to track you down with more questions.

I was NOT trying to circumvent anything!!!!!! OMG I know that when you transfer points from 1 account to another they remain the same resort priority and UY and would NEVER think I could transfer points from 1 resort to another and use the 11 month priority I did not even think that would be a possibility!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am in the process of purchasing an add on from SSR with different UY and my thought process was I could transfer SSR points from 1 account to the other SSR account to book 7 nights at THV with 11 month priority. I also own BLT and would never have SSR point transfered into that account unless I was going to use the points at 7 month mark and need to book a whole night using both contracts.

BTW I have never heard of the above happening but then again we just joined DVC over a year ago. Sorry if I gave the wrong impression:eek:

Hey, I am cool with that. ;) DH and I grew up in South Point, OH, about 5 miles from Ashland, KY, and have been in Columbus for 20 years now. Believe me, if my Buckeyes go down, I want Kentucky to go all the way! :woohoo:

With that being said, "Go Bucks!" :cheer2:

P.S. On the help, my pleasure!
