Two trips means twice the food

Looking forward to more of your reviews.
Thanks for reading!
Signing in! We also have 2 trips scheduled about 3 months apart - just for the fun of it!
It was so nice to have another trip scheduled when we left--made it much easier to leave knowing we would be back in three months!
Am subbing and looking forward to hearing all about the food you ate! :)

Edit: Posted before reading page 2! Am glad you enjoyed TH as we are eating there in September. As we are staying at Pop I imagine we will be eating there as well! :thumbsup2

We really liked Pop and we LOVED Everything Pop. Lots of choices!

I forgot to add in the previous post that we really liked Everything Pop. We ended up eating there more than usual for a resort because we liked the choices and the overall quality of the food. I had read that it gets really crowded, but with the exception of one evening, I didn't think it was bad. In fact, I found it much less crowded overall than CBR's food court at spring break in previous years. And the food was MUCH better.

Anyway...back to the originally scheduled reviews. Next up is Via Napoli and La Hacienda.

I think I started the day with Disney coffee in my refillable mug. I used to be all 'this coffee tastes like Disney to me (familiar) and therefore, I like it' but now I am more like 'this is really terrible coffee no matter if I am at Disney World and I just need to admit it and find another alternative.' Seriously. That coffee and the fake creamer is just bad. I have been pretending to like it for 12 years. Not anymore. Off my coffee soapbox and on to Epcot.

DS15 went off with his friends and DH and I ended up at Epcot alone. What a novelty. This was our first trip when we had actual 'alone' time--if you can count strolling through Epcot as alone. Therefore, we could choose where we wanted to eat. We decided on Via Napoli.

This place gets mixed reviews, but I LOVED it. DH was a little freaked about how close the tables were--we were off to the side by the windows overlooking the front of the restaurant and we were this.close to the table next to us. But the food distracted me, so I didn't care.

The blood orange aqua fresca was amazing. The perfect drink. I am not a big plain water drinker--I have to have something going on with my water--lemon, sparkling, etc. So the aqua fresca was perfect for me and not overly sweet. DH liked it, too. DH also had a sangria (red) which he said was one of the better sangrias he has had. It had a lot of cut-up fruit, which was nice.

We shared the fritto de verdura, or fried vegetables. Really good, not amazing, but hot, not greasy and good. I can't remember exactly which vegetables we had, I know there was zucchini, artichoke and maybe eggplant. We shared the salad and the margherita pizza--both great. The best thing about the salad was that there was more than two olives. I hate how some salads come out to share with only one or two sad little olives. I like olives! But the best thing of all was the zeppole di ricotta--the ricotta donuts with chocolate sauce and whipped cream. We got in a serious fork fight over the last one--they were sooooooo good. The interesting thing was that the donuts were not all that sweet, but combined with the chocolate and whipped cream, they were awesome. Left Via Napoli happy feeling like I had chocolate smeared all over my face. Kept asking DH to be sure I didn't--felt like I was wearing the dessert!

After a good deal of pool time, we joined up with our friends, ditched the kids again and went to La Hacienda de San Angel for dinner. First time for both of the Epcot restaurants for us.

Had an ok table--not by the windows, but that was alright because we were not planning on it for Illuminations. The prevailing memory of this place is that the service was terrible. The waiter came to the table once and, brought drinks and took our order, and never returned until we flagged him down for the bill. Who drinks just one beer at a Mexican restaurant while on vacation? Oh. Us. Because we had a server who never returned.

Anway, DH and one friend had shrimp tacos (Tacos de Camarones) and said they were good, but not as good as shrimp tacos in southern California. I ordered off the vegetarian menu--they have a specific vegetarian menu that I didn't see anywhere online. Anyway, I had roasted corn and vegetable enchiladas. They were good, but had a really sour, salty aftertaste. Our other friend had a salad (Ensalada de la Hacienda) which became know as the salad with 'weird stuff' I think she didn't like the pomegrante seeds. It wasn't bad, just not what she was expecting.

The bottom line is that I would not go out of my way to eat here unless I wanted to snag a window table to watch Illuminations. Service was bad, food was so-so and the really off-putting thing was that they kept dropping things--forks, glasses--clanking and a few things shattering. They need to up their game.

We ended the night with beers (to make up for our one-beer dinner) and funnel cakes. Never had a funnel cake at the kiosk in America at Epcot--what a discovery. Had a few more before the week was out.

Next up: Kouzzina breakfast, Everything Pop lunch and 50s Prime Time for dinner

On Monday, DH and I got up early and went to breakfast at Kouzzina. Another new place for us. I liked the breakfast at Spoodles, so I wanted to try Kouzzina. The restaurant was not busy at all--everyone else was heading to the parks on such a sunny day. Not us--our feet were tired.

We got our first 'real' coffee of the week--we shared a pressed pot of coffee. Ahh. It was kind of scary to realize the depth of our addiction to coffee. But the pressed pot of coffee was very good and very much needed after three days of Nescafe.

Our server was nice and efficient. I think we were her only table, so that probably helped. DH had the stacked Kouzzina breakfast with poached eggs, kalamata olive toast, sweet potato hash, artichoke spread and chicken sausage. It sounds like a lot of different tastes, and it is, but he said they worked amazingly well together. In fact, he said it was one of the best breakfasts he has ever had. He loved it--especially the toast, which he didn't even want to share--not a single bite. He did allow me a few small bites of the sweet potato hash, which was yummy.

Feeling full from all the eating we had been doing the past couple of days, I opted for the create your own yogurt and granola. It came with plain Greek yogurt, granola, carmelized almonds, and berries and it was really good. There is just something about yogurt and granola in restaurants. I love it, but even though I have Greek yogurt in the refrigerator and granola in the cupboard right now at home, I don't usually eat it. Not sure why, because I do like it. It was one of those perfect meals when you have managed to order exactly what you feel like--and to top it off, it's good. I did ask for honey on the side.

So we were happy and full, but not stuffed like after eating at Tusker House a few days earlier. Kouzzina was a place we would definitely return for breakfast (and did, later in the week, to mixed results).

For lunch, we were back at Pop and we hit the food court. We split a reuben flatbread (with the corned beef on half of it) and a Greek salad-which was fresh and good and not drenched in dressing. Both were very good. Seriously, Everything Pop rocked! I also got semi-addicted to the little chocolate cakes that are the dessert option at a lot of counter service places. We were not on the dining plan, but I loved those little bowls of fudgy chocolate! A couple of refillable mugs of Coke and iced tea rounded out a most pleasant pool-side meal.

For dinner, we hooked up with our friends and the kids and ate at 50s Prime Time. Cousin Eric was great--the right balance of funny and not over-the-top. We had three teenage boys at the table that he named Skippy, Zippy and Sparky.

No fault of Cousin Eric, but this was my worst meal of the week, by far. The vegetarian option--Uncle Dana's Artichoke and Ricotta Agnolotti--was gross. A few ravioli with some bad sauce, squash, mushroom stems and pearl pasta. Not a well-thought out dish, to be sure. Do the chefs taste the things they come up with? Maybe this was a hit in the 50s, but it didn't work for me. Ick. I did have a peanut butter and jelly milkshake, so that redeemed things a little bit.

Skippy, Zippy and Sparky had adult-sized chicken nuggets and fries and millkshakes. We didn't eat a lot of meals with DS15, but when we did, we didn't have a problem with either him ordering adult-sized portions of kid food or even ordering off the children's menu. He is way too picky to even consider much of anything off a regular adult menu.

DH and both friends had the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and greens and they all said it was great. Overall, a good meal with the notable exception of the vegetarian meal.

We had a major pixie dust moment in Hollywood Studios after dinner. DH and I were sitting on a bench outside of the Little Mermaid when a custodial worker named Sharlie came up to us and started talking. We chatted for a minute or two and then she handed us two fast passes for TSM. Score! It was one of those true "Disney" moments, especially because the wait was 120minutes in the standby line.

Hi, I'm glad to hear that Everything Pop was not as busy when you visited! I am a coffee person and have read about how bad it is at Disney World - may consider taking my own.

Via Napoli sounds great! I don't like olives so wouldn't have minded just having the odd one in the salad. Them donuts sound awesome!

Am sad to read about the bad service in Mexico. Have read good reviews of this place as well so maybe it was just your server and if you had a different one things may have been different.

Yay - a good review of Everything Pop again! I'll have to make sure to try that chocolate cake!

Eek - that food at 50s PTC doesn't sound good. Am glad you got some pixie dust after the meal!!

Looking forward to reading more :)

Thanks so much for the reviews of Kouzzina, I think we are going to try that in Oct

I appreciate the heads up on the veggie dish at 50's PT, we are going to try and walk in for a late lunch next month and that is the dish I planned on ordering...now I need to rethink it...thats if we even get a table :rotfl2:

We are thinking about going to Kouzzina for breakfast in Sept 'cuz we'll be nearby at aYC. Sounds great! I love greek yogurt.

great review of Kouzzina's breakfast - we love their dinner and it is on our shortlist for breakfast in 2012 :)

i am enjoying your reviews. keep them coming- they are great! so glad you scored fastpasses. love the disney magic.

And here we go again! Geez--I have not even finished my first Disney food review and now it is time to start another one. Sorry to be such a slacker. Our second trip is on the horizon and we leave in six days! I will work on completing the April dining review and then will start on the July trip.

Once again, we have confusing mess of ADR's, but I think I am a little more organized this time, as we are traveling with 9 people--me, DH, DS15, DS19, BIL, SIL, their twin 8 year-old daughters and DS19's girlfriend. Here's the list for our July trip:

Paradisio 37
Mama Melrose
Chefs de France
Via Napoli
San Angel Inn
Rose and Crown (7:45 p.m. on July 4--wish me luck for an outside table)
The Plaza
Ohana
Crystal Palace
Sci Fi Theatre
T Rex Cafe
Rainforest Cafe at AK
50s Prime Time
Boma (maybe)
Garden View Tea (girls only)

I am also want to get a cupcake from Starring Rolls! I think we have a pretty good line-up, especially since this will be the first Disney trip for my nieces.

We did end up canceling many of our ADR's in April and just ate at Everything Pop for several meals--we were lazy, I guess, since it was just me, DH and
DS15 on that trip and we knew we were headed back in a few months.
